I honestly have not checked out the new album yet. I'll be doing so shortly.

I bought two new singles from Modest Mouse off iTunes yesterday. They are my favourite band, but I'm not totally digging the new stuff quite yet. Sounds more like filler material than their best work. Maybe they'll grow on me, though.

They have an EP coming out in August - 8 songs I think.

http://www.interstate-8.com/default.asp

Modest Mouse will be releasing their new 8-song EP No One’s First and You’re Next in early August. In the months leading up to that they will be releasing four 7" Singles.

The first one will be released on orange vinyl and contain Satellite Skin and Guilty Cocker Spaniel as its A and B sides respectivly.

Insound is now taking orders for the Autumn Beds 7" for a June 23 release. The b-side has been revealed to be the Whale Song and the cover art appears to feature spiders with butterfly wings.

Yeah, hopefully the next six songs tickle my fancy more than these.

Oh I also downloaded the new Dane Cook yesterday. I know it's fashionable to hate on him, but he's damn funny. It's in the top tens comedy section of iTunes if anybody is interested.

The new Grizzly Bear album "Veckatimest" just keeps getting better and better with each listen. Been listening to these guys for a couple years and they seem to be developing a pretty distinct sound. Great stuff.

Also got Hayden's latest "The Place Where We Live". Doesn't stray far from the usual Hayden sound but a pretty solid disc.

Not sure if its been mentioned in this thread but the new Dave Matthew's Band album "Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King" was released today...I stayed up late just to download this album off iTunes. Great album...highly recommended if you've been a fan of DMB in the past. Seem to really get back to their original stuff.

Love the songs "Baby Blue", "Lying in the Hands of God", and "You and Me"

So I downloaded the album and I'll give it 3/5 stars. It's better than "Lifeline" but nowhere near "Fight For Your Mind."

After 9 albums and nearly 20 years, Sonic Youth parted ways with longtime label DGC/Geffen last year. Not long afterwards, the newly liberated band signed with indie stalwart Matador Records to release their new album, the band's 16th, The Eternal. They employ a new liberated sound for the record as well, a true return to form that should please Sonic Youth fans across the board.

This may have been mentioned already but... here are some albums that are out, or will be out shortly, that I've really been enjoying:

Dredg - The Pariah, The Parrot, and The Delusion
So far I'm really liking it. Seems like a natural progression from their previous albums.

Bat For Lashes - Two Suns
Just found out about these guys. The entire album is pretty epic.

Passion Pit - Manners
Electropoppy goodness. Very good album.

I love that Bat For Lashes record... I don't think they're a band though, it's just the pseudonym of Natasha Khan.

The new record by The Field - 'Yesterday and Today' is a must have for anyone who is interested in electronic music generally:

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti...terdayandtoday

And Grizzly Bear's 'Veckatimest' just came out... it's growing on me, but I think it's better than 'Yellow House'.

Also the new Wilco record - 'Wilco' - has leaked and is (was?) streaming on their website. I like it, but I'm not a hardcore fan... I have a feeling their hardcore fans might be disappointed by it.

You got that right. His look pisses me off too, it's too close to Efren Ramirez (from Napoleon Dynamite and Employee of the Month).

The Dirty Projectors (the odd warm-up act for TVOTR) are getting rave reviews (88):

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti...tors/bitteorca

Pitchfork
Here, it stands behind so many other newly apparent strengths--a testament to the leaps and bounds Longstreth has made as a songsmith and Dirty Projectors have made as a band.

Sonic Youth (76):

http://www.metacritic.com/music/arti...cyouth/eternal

All Music Guide
Sonic Youth's freedom to follow their bliss is what holds The Eternal together; just as paradoxically, the changes they make on this album not only bring excitement to their music, they reaffirm just how consistently good the band has been--and continues to be--over the years.

Our Lady Peace's new album Burn Burn is coming out on July 21st, Chevelle's new album Sci-Fi Crimes comes out sometime in August, and Breaking Benjamin's yet-to-be-titled 4th studio album is said to be coming out later this summer.

I imagine, that if I could force myself to even come remotely close to liking hip hop, that I would like Mos Def. Dude is super talented and extremely intelligent.
