Its an important lesson to the little sh#ts. I'm not going to turn the other cheek, or skulk away from these disrespectfull kids.

they certainly didn't want to act like normal human beings when I nicely asked them not to talk in the theatre, they threatened me, I threatened back. I would do that to these kids or a bunch of 40 year olds. I would do the same with the parking lot situation, no matter what their ages.

Well fair enough, I guess we'd handle it a little differently then.

If there were a couple of 14 year old beaking at me in a parking lot, my reaction wouldn't be to turn around and start threatening them. Mostly because they're 14. I know they are stupid, and that turning around to try to take them up on their offer to fight can only end one of two ways.

1) they run off. Nothing comes of it, and I could look silly for wanting to fight with a couple of teenagers
2) I actually get in a fight with them, and aside from the obvious legal troubles that could cause, I wind up being the guy who got in a brawl with some kids who had to wait for their mome to bring them home from the movies.

I was a complete tit when i was younger, I was arrested when i was 16, I used to do whatever i wanted to have fun, drink, smoke, whatever. But one thing i never did was disrespect people older than me. Doing that would get your butt kicked real quick. the Pansification of our society will lead to its downfall.

This is a lesson i had to teach my brother a couple months ago.

I find a stiff backhand with no warning works. Or hit them with a phonebook, no evidence.

I don't know Captain, I mean your certainly within your rights to ask them to be quiet, but when they don't respond in a respectable way, you responding that you'd "beat one of them with his friends body" seems pretty immature, they were in the wrong of course but you stopped being right at that point. They are kids, chances are after they puffed up their immature chest and defied you in words they would have stopped talking... but they needed to save face in front of their peers... the adult response would have been - a) ask them to stop politely. b) depending on what happens next decide if you can ignore them or if you need to go get a manager to throw them out. c) if you decide your not going to chase a manager down during the movie and ignore them, complain afterwards, and get a free pass for another move. In fact either way your should get a pass as your movie experience was not what you paid for.

At no point is ok for an adult to threaten children, even if they are really deserving it... it why we are adults. We *should* know better.

I had an annoying teenager experience of my own last week... probably not as bad as the OPs, but still pissed me off.

I was getting out of an elevator carrying about 120 lbs of equipment and when the door openned, some 13 year old looking ###### bag was going to try to get in. First of all, it is common sense to let people out of the elevator before you get in, but this prick tried to get in. Since I was carrying something heavy, I left the elevator forcing him to back-up... but I did say "excuse me". The kid motioned with his thumb for me to get out and said very rudely; "Get Out!". I wanted to turn around and kick him in the back as he was getting in...

I've seen the watchmen, star trek and wolverine at chinook this year and never had one problem with the kids, and chinook is this cities mecca for spoiled suburbinite kids.

The only problem I've had in recent memory is some kids sitting behind us in the IMAX, they talked loudly through the previews, but thats fine. Once the movie began they started up, it took only one throaty "Hey, shut the hell up!" to get complete silence for the entire show. After it was over I got up and turned around and not one of this group of 10-12 teens would look me in the eye.

I'd recommend watching nature specials and the south park episode 'tsst' to learn about alpha behaviour. Its about dominance, not confrontation. You can't win an argument with a teen, if you get in one, your basically saying that they have the right to treat you as an equal. Once you've said what you have to say ignore them completely.

I figured I'd chime in as someone who spends a considerable amount of time volunteering with them.

Are teenagers Idiots?

Abso-fataing-lutely. No question, argument over, yes, teenagers are idiots, but it doesnt make them evil. Its all about how you interact with them. As a soccer coach I like to initiate and maintain a culture of absolute fear.

The guys that I deal with are pretty good, generally, but I also deal with them in a very limited capacity for a very short period of time.

The thing that I hate is: "Arent they such great kids!?!?"

What? Sure, for the 2 hours that I have to deal with them they're freaking angels, because if they werent I'd cuff them and roll their corpse into the nearest ravine.

They're probably as bad or worse than every other kid whenever they're away from their parents.

Seriously, 14 year olds are stupid. Mouthing off in a movie theatre is well within their expected range of actions.

Adults presumably are not. Hence actually trying to take up the 14 year olds invitation to brawl isn't in what most people would classify as acceptable behaviour.
I'm with BBS here, just didn't want to be the first only one to say it. Seriously, you go to a few kids with a confrontational attitude, and you expect a mature response? I dunno, seems kind of immature to take that sort of attitude. If your goal was to pick up a fight and show how stupid kids are and scare a few 14 year olds, yeah you go and tell them you are going to beat one with the others corpse. (you would also be the slimebag of the earth if you did) If your goal to to get them to shut up so you can watch the movie, you tell them "hey guys, can you please stop talking as much so we can watch the movie?" Or, as I think I said above, you could have just moved. Probably one reason I don't have so many problems as everyone else is cause I usually look for seats away from people and notably, teenagers so they can do what they want and I can just enjoy the movie.

I think there was a bit of a lack of forward thinking here

Good for you captain. I am a quiet, calm guy but when stuff like this happens and I get set off, I would and have done the same.

When I was young, I would have gotten my ass kicked had I acted that way. Kids now should expect the same. The selfish sense of entitlement some have won't go away unless you call people on it. Doesn't matter if they're 14 or 40.

People act real tough until you give them the crazy eyes. I've never even been in a fight in my life but I have been in plenty of altercations. Most end with everyone around pointing and laughing at the self entitled prick(s). Much more satisfying than hiding or telling a manager/daddy.

Right now, I tend to think teenagers are angels....and grow ups are the stupid morons.

People who are all grown up, and think they understand something but really don't need to shut the hell up. At least with teenagers we all know that they'll grow up....and being immature little pricks is on par with how most people are at that age.

But when you're 50 years old, you shouldn't act like an ignorant fool anymore.

Oh man, arguably my biggest social pet peeve; idiots at movie theatres. I actually will avoid seeing a big hit movie the first couple weeks its out just to avoid all the idiots in the theatre(and its not always just teens). When I do end up seeing a movie "too early" when its still packed, I actually dread the quiet parts in movies, because thats when the yokels in the crowd start making noise. I'm not exaggerating when I say over 50% of the time that I see a movie, I have to deal with some idiot behind us kicking my girlfriend's seat(for some reason it always happens to her, but never to me). I can't wait until I get out of college and can afford a home entertainment system, then I never have to go to the theatres again.

I love going to movie theatres, but I hate the crowd.

I'm with you, Captain. They pulled some crap, you called their bluff and sent them running with their tails between their legs. More people need to do this to the little morons.

Some of this teenage idiocy is because no one fights anymore. Very few of these teenage punks have ever had their ass kicked. I mean a good old fashioned black eye giving rib stomping tooth knocked loose beatdown. Everyone thinks they're superman until they get popped in the face. I blame it on the P.C. nature of the world. Kids aren't allowed to fight anymore, and it used to be a good problem solver. Helped establish a social hierarchy. Get in a fight at school nowadays and the ramifications are so completely out of whack.

Long story short: Violence solves problems.

Problem with kids these days is they have no honor when they fight. It should be 2 guys throwing fists til one gets put on his ass then problem solved. But nowadays kids want to gang up on one guy and dont stop when hes on the ground, they wont stop until hospitalization is required, then you get whole gangs going at it with weapons. My brother went thru HS thinking he was the sh** because he along with 10 other guys could win a fight against 1 kid.

but total agree, violence solves problems when its 2 honorable guys, usually involves a black eye being given out with beers afterwords.

How many fights are you in? Besides sports, I haven't been in a fight since grade 8. In the heat of the moment sports, those fights usually last 10 seconds or less.

Oh, I'm not saying I'm Brawly McBrawler. But, when I was a kid / teen, an actual fistfight between people wasn't uncommon. Nowadays kids can't fight at school. Period. The ramifications are brutal, so they can't chance it. Therefore, this shinguard talking mentality has taken over, so these punks think they can run their mouths off constantly with no repurcussions, hence why Capn's punks took off once it was obvious they were gonna get some sort of pounding.

Nowadays it's either a "crew" of kids that can't handle 1 on 1, or little gangsta mack suburb kid wants to grab a damned gun. Yeah, the times they are a changing, but still, it's just lame now.

I guess I'm saying kids today just aren't made of the same mettle. Wow, I am getting old.

Same, I'm consider myself a frequent movie goer when not at school and I'm hard pressed to think of a time I was really annoyed. Perhaps its because I see a fair amount of midnight openings for the big blockbusters? I dunno.

Certain types of movies will draw larger amounts of teenagers. And certain times of the day and certain days of the week will also draw larger amounts. If you wanna avoid em I suggest avoiding all weekend matinees, and perhaps all Friday night and Sat night movies as well.
