I'm not a fan of the whole CSI franchise in general.
When it comes to crime drama, nothing beats Law & Order. Ever since Jerry Orbach passed away, the one liners haven't been as zingy, but it's still the best series by far IMO (The only one I think is a little bit under par is SVU, which, while i like the actors, i tire of it always revolving around abuse or rape).
Southland is actually a really great cop/crime show as well. Too bad the season was so short.

The original CSI was great for the first few seasons. The success of it killed it though, as TV became inundated with similar shows. I have never liked the other two, and rarely watch the original now.
Agree about Law and Order, but I like SVU probably the best because the characters are the best of any of the incarnations. I understand what you mean though. I like Criminal Intent when D'Onofrio is on. By far the best Law and Order character ever.
Didn't get to catch Southland. Will in the future.
But if we're talking about cop shows in general, I would just like to say that I REALLY miss The Shield.

He was on NYPD Blue in the beginning before they realized just how gay and BRUTAL he is and replaced him with whats his name...i forget. But it made the show way better.
IIRC he held out one year for a huge raise and/or was making demands about more lines/scenes so they canned his terrible acting ass instead. (the rest of him acts terribly as well)
*edit* according to wikipedia he simply left to pursue a film career, but for some reason I remember hearing stories of him being demanding. Maybe I'm thinking of another spoiled actor

I always remember him leaving NYPD Blue for a film career as well, a career that never really materialized and was the cause of a lot of mockery. I think Jade might have been his biggest feature.
