Default Ps3 - socom

Anyone have any thoughts on the SOCOM game for the PS3?

The reason I ask is that I see that it is on sale at Futureshop for $40 and includes a headset. I've been thinking about getting a headset for a while so this seems like a good deal but I'm just not sure about the game. I read a couple of online reviews and it doesn't sound that great; lots of technical issues but I'm not sure if those have been cleaned up by now or not.

I recently got Call of Duty 4 so I'm not sure if SOCOM is going to be a major let down.

Thanks

Its one of my favorite games I almost spent the cash on a PS3 just for that one game.

Having never played Socom, yes CoD4 will be better.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking I will buy it either way. Even if the game sucks the combo is still cheaper then buying the headset by itself.

Yeah, the Combo would be worth it, just for the headset.

The game was a huge letdown, nothing like it was on PS2.

I did the same thing a while ago to get the headset. I hardly play socom, but the headset is useful.

i've had socom 2 since it came out. Absolutely love it. But remember this is strategic and tactical military game. Not just a run & gun game. If you like those kindof games then this is the one for you.

COD = run & gun

(i like cod 4 but i'm really tired of respawn military games so socom is where its at)

I've been a huge SOCOM fan since day one. Think I've spent well over 2000 hrs (over 1000 on S2 alone) on all the games combined. SOCOm 2 had some of the best and most balanced multiplayer maps ever created. Good lord do I miss that game.

I was supposed to buy a PS3 when SOCOM came out for it, but I still haven't. Now with CoD: MW2 a few months away (and looking oh so good) I don't know what to do...

I'd make that purchase. Socom got a bunch of horrible press when it was released mainly because it probably shouldn't have been released. It shipped buggy to an unacceptable degree. Now that many moons have passed I've heard it's actually quite solid. I say go.

But if it is a bargain bin game might it be before the fixes or will it update when he puts it in the first time?

It will prompt him to download the update when he first plays.

Well I got a chance to play a couple of games tonight and I have to say that it seems like it would be pretty good but I had no clue what was going on. Maybe I missed it but it seemed strange that there was no tutorial or offline way to figure out the controls and the game play. Probably nothing a little experience won't fix though.
