If someone wants to be a guinea pig for me.....pick up some coconut water, and try it while you workout, and after working out and see if it helps you recover and hydrate.

Not that I know of.

Its supposedly a better PWO drink that gatorade or powerade. Probably not what a lot of people here would be using, but if someone is into high endurance sports, it would be pretty cool if they tried it.

When I cared and actually took care of myself I found some of my best results having a protein shake just before bed. It is a healthy way to keep your metabolism going through out the night.

If you think about it and you stop eating let's say after 8pm but don't wake up and have breakfast til 8am that is 12 hours your body is not getting any nutritions. It is actually giving your body a reason to shut down and stop burning fat because it thinks you are starving it.

When I did this I would stop eatting at 8pm, then when I went to bed between 10-12pm I would have a protein shake. Then at least your body is getting something and feels safe to burn off energy while you sleep.

I would actually make a drink with 250ml Milk, scoop of Protein powder and 5-8g of L-Glutamine (for recovery).

It is a great way to have quicker recovery time as well. Your body does most if not all of it's muscle repair while you sleep. So if there is lots of Protein and Glutamine in your system it can feed your bodies need/want. With this drink you are also taking in very few g's of Carbs and Fat which would not effect your results in the end.

Anyways just my 2 cents on that.

Well the wife and I just finished the Day 1 work out, 50 minutes of Chest and Back, followed by 15 minutes of Ab Ripper X.

As expected, we got the crap kicked out of us. I could only do a few real pull ups, but got good results using a stool to assist.

Diamond pushups? Fata me! Those things were probably the hardest.

Doing the Ab Ripper right after too was hard as were totally wiped from the first one. Definitly need to work on those excercises but with time they will come.

Lots of breaks, lots of water and lots of burn.

Feeling pretty damn good right now though. I got my recovery drink in hand (protein powder, chocolate milk and strawberries blended together, lovely).

Only 89 more days to go, Bring It!

Good stuff!

Just follow through on it, and like I said in our PMs, don't expect all 90 days to go perfectly. Keep working on it, and you'll progress no matter what.

Good habits take a while to form.....which is exactly why I love P90x. It teaches you good habits.

First day....I wouldn't worry about not being able to do stuff. If you can do even 1 pullup, you're further ahead than most people. Like I said, just keep plugging away at it....and the results will come.

Its kinda cool that you're doing it with your wife. Not that often where the commitment is made by both at once. Usually, one has to commit, change...and then work on the other to motivate her/him to do the same.

it will go by fast. did you take before pictures? you will be surprised by the end of phase one. and you will get stronger. at first i could only do about 3-5 pull ups. now i can do about 10.

OK so I finally caved and started drinking chocolate milk as a small snack while a work upon Azures recommendation. This is hard for me because I really don't like milk, but my question is can I drink Vanilla milk instead? I prefer it to chocolate a great deal.

what about soy milk? i do not like regular cow milk (or any dairy)...it makes me "sit for a while".

...and i am not that into chocolate.

Azure? any recommendations?

Good to see some of you folks getting into P90x. It's a great program, he's an annoying coach but it works. GERMAN POTATO SOUP!!!

Anyway, I got through 1.5 months and then went on vacation and I haven't gotten back into it yet because I've been busy but I plan on restarting but in that time I put on 5-7lbs with the help of 2 modest protein shakes a day and eating some hardy meals. My intention was to bulk keep in mind so I am very happy with the progress in a short time, definition was a bit better on arms and shoulders, I can imagine 3 months straight would do wonders for me. Look forward to getting back into it.

Protein shake at night is very good for you, don't buy into the other party, your body needs time to repair and to repair your muscles will catabolize but a recovery drink (before bed if that's the case) will help keep your body nourished and help you be ready for Day 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

The problem with drinking just 2% milk instead of chocolate milk is you're not getting the 4:1 ratio of carbs/protein.

But, try normal milk if you want, or soy milk. Both are very much alike, outside of the taste.

If you recover well.....keep using it.

Chocolate milk is cheap, and effective. That is why I recommend it. But, its not the only thing that works.

If your diet is pretty good, you get enough sleep....but your workouts are seriously lagging, its a good indication that your PWO drink isn't giving your body what it needs.

Just to clarify or point out a few things.

Drinking beer once in a while won't kill your progress. It might hinder it, especially if it becomes a habit, because of the empty calories/carbs.....but why go through life without drinking beer?

Of course, if you're on the P90x plan, and you're following a strict diet, maybe stay away from the beer for those 90 days. And if you do choose to drink it, make sure you keep measuring, watching body fat, watching your weight, and if it ends up being a problem for you, maybe drop it for a while.

Secondly.....the more I research fitness/nutrition/weight loss, the more I see how important the role of insulin is for fat loss. Someone else said it a lot better than I can, so I'll just quote them.

IMO, memorize foods and their GI index, and try to stay away from those with a GI index over 100. Basically we're talking about white flour(the devil itself).....and some of the foods listed above.

I punched in Watermelon because I didn't believe what the article said with it being above 100 on the GI scale, and sure enough, the website shows it at 72.

So Week 1 on P90X is completed, we start back at the Chest/Back/AbX workout tonight.

Throughts so far...I am loving it. Just in one week I have noticed increased energy levels, and an overall better mood.

The workouts are all very challenging, my favorite is the Kenpo X one, my wife and I were aboslutely exhasuted and dripping sweat after that one.

Yoga X is tough, i'm not going to lie. We're going to keep at it though, I can see where it would be very beneficial.

The nutrition side of things isn't too bad either. Supplementing all the chicken and eggs with protein shakes and low fat protein bars. Keeping the carbs down and staying away from the crap (for the most part, did have a few cookies a neighbor brought over ).

Playing around with the Recovery Drink a bit, I think I will continue to mix it up between milk and the Endurox R4. Does anyone know if you can buy that P90x recovery drink locally? I would like to just try it out a few times.

Gotta keep bringing it now, how is everyone else doing?

Hmm today's lunch spot (parking lot of park) is full of coconuts. They're a pain to crack open.

I've only been to one legit yoga class but I think they mention that YogaX is more intense than a regular yoga workout. I find it to be the hardest one of all the workouts for sure.

i'm starting p90x right after i complete my ride to conquer cancer. i have been flipping thru the nutrition portion of the plan, and it fits me into the level iii category. it seems like a hell of a lot of protein. should i be following this plan or how should i go about eating properly?

YogaX kicks the living crap out of me - you do yoga moves, but it gets HARD real fast.

I hope you really like Sun Salutations and Vinyasas (sp?)

I can also touch my toes in hurdler's stretch for the 1st time since Jr High.

I still have trouble with Crane, and the half moon pose is a bitch hehe.

Yoga belly hurts like hell too.

If you do p90x, I suggest you stick with what they recommend.

It'll help you learn about good foods, and form good habits.
