FYI for anyone. Since I just received my blue cart today and on the pamphlet, it says that you can't put electronics inside the blue cart. A company called Geep Ecosys will take all of your electronic stuff from tv's, vcr's, dvd players, computers, crt's, basically anything that you have no more value for. I believe this company is listed with the city as a electronics recyling depot.

Not so long ago you could take it to certain Staples stores as well. They had a bin in the back.

I still do. They supposedly take up to 5 items at a time; but have never had anybody check if I only had that many.

Doubt they recycle it. Im sure they just throw it into a shipping container and send it to China where its dumped into a giant scrounging landfill with the rest of North America's electronic junk.

Actually they showed a segment on what happens to our recycled electronics a while back on Global. In your average Pentium II computer there's about $100 worth of precious metals; mostly gold and copper.

As for needing to recycle more than 5 things at a time- I'm quite the packrat when it comes to hanging onto technology longer than I should- and there's only been a handful of times where I had more than 5 things; enough that it would still be easier to make a couple of trips to Staples as opposed to arranging for pickup.

I know for a fact that it gets sent to Edmonton(insert joke here) for recycling. They have a huge plant where they do the electronics recycling. It is a city agreement with Geep that no consumer material is touched and sent for recycling.
