I didn't think that the comment was directed at me, but when someone makes an absolutely ridiculous generalization that most young women are complete whores these days, you better believe I'm going to say something about it.
What is your so called "evidence" to support your claim? You see a couple of dirty girls dressed slutty and you assume that every young woman must be a whore? I just think your comment was a bit dramatic and unneccesary...

I was always told to dress one step above the typical attire of the workplace you are interviewing for.
Maybe it is the opposite for young, attractive ladies?

I have no problem with the women who wear short skirts or flaunt their sexuality to get a job. It is afterall what you do during interviews, make your best qualities stand out. What I DO have a problem with are the managers/bosses who actually score this more than their actual qualifications and hire/promote them based on that.

Wardrobe can always be addressed.

In our culture, people ARE judged by their appearance whether you want to accept it or not.
And lets not all pile on flip here..................yeah he made a generalization but look around. I was at the mall the other day and I couldn't keep count of all the 12-16 year olds with their mini-skirts and cell phones walking around like they owned the place. Also, if you go for drinks at bars/pubs, one might conclude that their ARE alot of trampy women running around........
and MissKat you almost sound bitter that this woman got such a reaction from your boss........

I'm inclined to agree, and I think that dressing properly for the interview is a quality that is required to be taken seriously.
In every workplace I've ever been employed (including Dairy Queen when I was high school) if you were a guy that walked in wearing a ball cap, your resume was filed under "G".
Dress appropriately.
That said, if the girl was in high school, I'd probably ask if she had business attire, and then reschedule the interview to give her a second chance.

This is such a contradictory statement here............on one hand you think women should flaunt it if they got it..........yet if a man reacts to their sexuality it is not acceptable???
Helloooooooo, we are human, we are animals!
It is becoming clear to me that women don't understand men..................period.
It's like dangling a steak in front of a dogs face and then kicking him when he goes for a bite you know?

In fairness I think the point that BlackArcher101 is getting at is that it doesn't matter what someone looks like, or what they wear into an interview should play any merit on their hiring. It should be strictly on their abilities, talents, and skill sets.
Regardless if a hot chick with a mini-skirt goes in, or a fat, sweaty, balding, naked man goes into an interview, it's what they say, and perform answering your questions that matter.
That said, I somewhat agree, but in my previous post make a counter argument. But I don't think he's saying "if you got it, flaunt it sister!"

Okay so a woman can't walk around in a hot outfit and have some attitude without being some type of slut?
I know many girls/women that dress scandalous a lot of the time who wouldn't put out to any guy they weren't dating, if at all.
I just don't get how you dress translates to your sexual history.

I would say that they really want that job...and might do 'anything' to get it.

I agree 100%. If she's qualified you can give her the job, and let her know the dress code.
Also I think people are waaaaaaay too uptight in our society in general so I don't have a problem with it.
Personally I think the work dress code is really outdated anyways.

Doesn't make it right, and I like to think that we have brains capable of understanding this. Of course you will always have a first impression but you also have the ability to see past that first impression once you speak with them.

I can't think of a single office receptionist in a large company that I've been to that hasn't been very good looking.
Yes, it's wrong to judge based on appearances. Yes, we all do it anyway (whether we act on it or not is the important question).
So showing up to an interview for a receptionist in a short skirt may not be appropriate (depending on the company), but it probably didn't hurt.

Well people tend to judge others by their appearance..........maybe not outwardly but in their mind for sure. And I am not perfect, I am definately judgemental to a degree.
As for your opening question;
My definition of slutty may be different from yours or flips or anyones. Its all a matter of perspective.
I think it is great if women want to dress hot, hell I am a beneficiary for the eye candy and all, but there is a classy way to do it..............like the girl in the bar who yelled at me because she was dancing on top of the speakers and I noticed she was wearing a short, short skirt with no panties on!!! ...................and she was all........."WTF are you lookin' at?" and I said frankly "I can see your bearded clam"..................okay I didnt say that but I wanted to!
