I called my insurance company this morning and left a message telling them that since moving to my new place that I take transit and don't drive the car back and forth to work and only use it for running errands, etc. I wanted to ask them about what options I had for making my insurance cheaper. They called when I was out of the office and left a message saying that they lowered my coverage to "pleasure driving" and would send out the revised info. I called them back and left a message (because I can never get in touch with anyone there) to ask what this covers. Still waiting to hear back from them. In the meantime... does anyone know what this usually covers?

Never mind. Finally heard back from them. It just means that I don't drive the car to and from work and can go anywhere else I want (groceries, road trip). I asked if someday I miss the bus and need to drive to work if it'll be okay. She said it'd be fine.

I wonder how much it'll drop my insurance? Forgot to ask her.

I'd be interested in knowing how much that drops you. I ended up leaving my official commute as 5 km in case I needed it occasionally for work (even though my walk is 10 minutes). As I recall it only made like 30$ a year difference.

Well by not using my car to drive to work (about 50+ km per day roundtrip) and only using it for "pleasure use" it has dropped my insurance by a whopping $24 per YEAR. Hardly worth my time playing phone tag and stuff with them but I guess it's better in my pocket than theirs.
