I actually found it very amusing... Not that suicide is funny but the whole situation and the interview with the guy is just plain silly.

That is funny for sure. I'm sure this will start a debate but he is right in saying people who threaten or commit suicide are just selfish.

The guy who pushed him is just as selfish as the wannabe jumper. He didn't want to be held up any longer by this one person.

Since there was an inflated air cushion below, the whole "suicide" thing is moot anyways. The guy just pushed him to help him feel the thrill.

But none jumped and -- until Lai gave Chen a helping hand -- none was pushed.
None were pushed. Or... no one was pushed.
Corksucker, and he was doing so well.

The article says that the fall was only eight meters which is about 25 feet, an easily survivable fall, you'd probably have a few broken bones though.

That's what I was thinking. Pretty lame "suicide" attempt...
Unless he planned on diving head first, the 25 foot fall would have only broke his ankles.

I always wonder why there are so many attempted suicides compared to successful ones.
I'm dealing with the loss of a friend through suicide, he gassed himself in his car, a certain death. Why do people choose methods that aren't gauranteed to kill you? It just seems weird to me.

Because they don't truly want to kill themselves.
Really, if you didn't want to live any longer, it's pretty damn easy to kill yourself.

It's a cry for help and they hope someone saves them.

I'd wager a guess that the numbers are a lot closer than one would think.

Spoken like someone who doesn't fully understand the issues generally surrounding suicide. As someone who has a family member that suffered from a severe anxiety disorder, and several other family members that have suffered from a range of mental illnesses, it's just not that simple. Quite often people with suicide on their minds feel trapped. They often truly believe that they have no real friends and family and that the people that "might" care about them would be better off without them.
Suicide isn't just some trivial selfish act. It's usually the tragic result of a long battle with a debilitating disease.
