Tattoos are lame because for every one that is visually appealing and really suits the person who has it there are about 100 times as many that are awful. Just when I was getting out of high-school this whole tattoos thing start to get some legs and I knew a large number of people who decided to get them. Now only 4 years later roughly 80% of people who I've come across that got tattoos back then have either got them removed or desperately want them gone.
I think the fact that his is going to be on your body for the rest of your life is lost on a lot of people.

On my way home from work a tattooed girl walked in front of my car while I was waiting for the light to change. I pretended to have a seizure and ran her over. Got off scott-free. Serves the classless skank right I say.

I've been planning to get my first tattoo for a while now, and I think this thread is my final motivator. I'm going for it!
Dess: When it's done, I'll be sure to PM you with a long, detailed story of how important it is to me, and what is represents.

If you're a chick and it's on an x-rated part of your body, please do.

Tattoos on any part of the breast... why... WHYYYYYY? Why turn something so lovely into an ink-stained fat blob?

I thought well and hard for four years about what I wanted my tattoo to be, I had designed it and fine tuned it and grew to love it so much that I had to have it tattoo'd on me.
Yes it means something, yes it honours someone, does that mean I need a tattoo to remember someone important in my life? No! But to me, having it is special, I don't even remember I have it on me most of the time as its on my ribs just below my armpit, but that tattoo is for me, not for people to look at and gawk, but for me.
If Im on the beach then people can see it, but most of the time they think its just henna art and not permanent so I don't get the attention. My motives for my tattoo are special and just for me.

For me its all about having something for the rest of your life. Honestly, I bet 95% of tattoos are regretted by the time the person is 50 or 60. Things that seem so important now, wont likely matter in a few years.

I think the more complex and big they get the more someone may regret it? My sister has a lame one she got when she was 14, she hates it already and she is only 19..

I think the problem with tattoos is more about people than it is about tattoos.
Lots and lots of people are stupid, have no artistic sensibility, and/or are easily influenced by trends and the opinion of others. It stands to reason that these people would then get tattoos that are stupid, ugly and/or common.

I've only read the last page of this thread. I think it's safe to say I'm not going to bother reading any of the other pages in it. I can only imagine the close-mindedness and self-importance that ran rampant throughout (probably from both sides).
I have 5 tattoos. I'm getting a 6th soon.
Cheers.

Hahah sure, walk around a pool and ask old people about their tattoos. Most will tell you they were stupid to get them. But go ahead believe whatever you want. Just make sure to save a couple grand for the lazer in a few years.

I'm an old person by the standards of most of you (not mine) and I think this is right. I know many people with tats (I don't have any) and I agree with this.

You've actually walked around a pool and asked old people about their tattoos and 95% said they regretted them? If so, that's a heck of a study... creepy, but interesting.
I don't see why you (and others) seem to care. You don't have to get one, nor do you have to be with someone who has one. Your inability to understand why someone would get one is the same at my inability to understand why you (and others) care.
Do you have the same stigma toward piercings? Belly button piercings or nose piercings on women?
