Looking for used Textbooks (First Year)
Hellow everyone, I finally got my schedule finalized for next year at the U of C and am wondering if I can find some used textbooks as I dont want to pay for brand new books.
The program I am going into is Biological Sciences, and these are the classes I will be taking.
Courses for this Fall:
Biology 231
Chemistry 201
Math 251
Physics 221
Poli Sciences 283
Courses for the Winter:
Biology 233
Math 253
Chemistry 203
Physics 223
Poli Sciences 201
Please PM if you have some textbooks as I greatly appreciate your help..
Thanks

Firstly... I went to university for 6 years and only opened a book in class twice. Before you say "maybe that's why you were there for 6 years," I got two undergrad degrees while there.
Buying used books is a good idea if you don't want to keep them, and also you can get some really good deals on old editions if you can get away with those books.
I kept all my books because I could afford to, but now I don't know what to do with the weird ones. Sorry none of those will help you out. Good luck in the fall.

many profs expect you to read the text to support/expand their lectures.......
I had a class once where all the prof tested on was info from the text..........many did not read it.....just saying

Don't buy anything yet. Wait until August or September when the profs will have actually picked their textbooks. Then go to the UofC bookstore and take notes. Either decide to buy them new/used from the bookstore or take the name of the book and try to find it elsewhere. Don't waste your time right now. Enjoy your summer before your craptastic first year courses start.
Edit: Just because you're in the same course name/number as someone else it doesn't mean that there won't be different texts for the different sections. FYI.

I have some of the science books but they are older versions for sure. I went to U of C from 2001-2006 (victory lap).
Let me know if you are interested in them anyways.

Wait for the course outlines to make sure you're buying the right books (used or not). Usually there is not a big difference between current editions and older editions so go used as much as possible.
I never, ever needed a "supplementary" textbook in my time at University (in engineering). Get the required books for sure but skip the supplementary ones - just a waste of money in my opinion.

I have a gigantic stack of textbooks from my first and second year that will probably be of interest to you. PM me with a list of exactly which books you need and I will probably be able to set you up with a few.
