The cops, they'll steal your dreams
And kill your friends.
- The Killers
Without condoning or condemning what happened there, and most certainly not justifying, here's a rather interesting read:

There are several others on pursuits and the associated physiological response.

Peter I don't need your concern.... You seem so misguided as you do not have an issue with this cops behavior.

I'd be surprised if his own mother feels sympathy for him after that stunt.
And how dumb is that officer? Can't he hear the helicopters?

Too bad he didn't do more than that little kick in the head.
And to the people who say the cop is fat and out of shape, what exactly is this based on? He doesn't look that fat in the video and didn't look out of breath after chasing the moron down.
If you don't want to get kicked in the head by the police don't get into a high speed chase and then run from the cops afterwards. Seems pretty simple to me.

Kid was clearly resisiting arrest.
Kid was clearly not a threat at the point he was kicked.
Kid clearly deserved to get kicked in the face.
Clearly not up to the cop to do that.
It must be very tough to restrain yourself when you chase these clowns down after watching them put dozens of lives at risk during the chase. But they MUST restrain themselves.

I disagree. He was finding a more comfortable place to be cuffed in... The lawn was very lush.

Look, I agree with you about this incident. BUT...you have to understand that leading cops on a high speed chase in which you nearly run over a pedestrian, then bail out and run on foot IS resisting arrest.
He shouldn't have got kicked in the face, but there is ZERO innocence on his part. None. The guy he almost ran over should've got to kick him in the face.

No you shouldn't have.
I was wondering, but you've been difficult for me to read lately.

For the record, I'm firmly in the 'actually using green text ruins everything' camp.

After watching the video I can see no justification for a kick to face. The kid was on the ground and passive at that point. Even if the kid has a gun on the ground the kick was not justified. In fact the if the kid did have a weapon the kick put the police officer in a vulnerable position as during the kick he no longer has his gun pointed at the suspect. If he is concerned about the suspect having a weapon he should wait with his gun drawn for his partner to come and search and cuff the suspect. This way the kid is dead if he trys something while being cuffed.

That's the key point right there for me. Corporal punishement is not an acceptable form of punishment in a free society, and at any rate, the police have no authority to hand out punishments - corporal or otherwise.
If people in free societies start letting things like this slide, it's a real slippery slope.

Theres no way that kid deserved to be kicked! He knew hes was caught, he gave up peacefully. Cops do things like this all the time, they are pricks.

And how exactly did a kick to the head prevent this completely make believe scenario from potentially occurring?
The kid deserved far more than a kick to the head, but as others have pointed out that's not the job of a police officer.

That punk is lucky he only got some love to the head. If it was me I would have blown both of his legs off. Those guys seriously risk their lives every day and to give a little extra to take care of business efficiently and "peacefully" is what they are going to do every time. I'm scared of a world when the Cops can't do that all the time. Peace out

Again, explain to me how a kick to the head would disarm the suspect here. How you can see that as an attempt to disarm is truly baffling.
