Default Long weekend travel

I'm heading out to BC, Kamloops area - what can I expect driving home on monday? should I leave really early - or wait and leave later?

Anyone else heading anywhere?

Any camping tips? Going to Paul Lake national park.

I usually leave Kamloops by about 6-7 am and things are fine on long weekends

Hmm... I'm in the market for a mountain bike - maybe I'll have to start PM'ing you again
Good luck!

Hmm... the gf wants to leave later thinking we'll have let the early people sit in traffic, I think otherwise, get out as fast as possible.

I'm heading off to Clearwater which is an hour and a half drive (hwy 5 - yellowhead hwy) north of Kamloops. Leaving Calgary on Friday morning (hope the traffic isn't too bad) and returning on Tuesday. I'm going via the Columbia Icefield hwy route.... hate going to Clearwater via Golden/Salmon Arm/Kamloops route (way too much traffic and its longer too).

Tenting or trailering at Paul Lake?

Well, then you're definitely going to hit a lot of traffic unless you plan on leaving Kamloops around 6 or 7pm. I have a cabin in the Shuswaps and I try to leave as early as possible because the traffic is terrible when you hit castle junction on the way back. The people that flood Radium/Invermere/Windamere etc all hit the Trans Canada around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

If you can get past Lake Louise by around 11 or 12 you're probably in good shape.

From Calgary it'll be a fair bit of a drive as you are adding a considerable amount of distance. But Yellowhead 5 to Tete Jaune Cache and accross to Jasper usually does move a lot more briskly than the TransCanada does from where the 4 lane East of Kamloops to the 4 Lane inside Banff National Park. Just going off memory Kamloops to Jasper is 450 km and than you're looking at the Ice Fields Parkway 230km to Lake Louise and than what like 160km still to Calgary. Whereas along the #1 it's about 600km total. Whereas from Clearwater...thats 120km off the Kamloops to Jasper portion and adding it to the Calgary/Kamloops leg on the TransCanada so it would make that drive comparable.

Wait til Tuesday.

Theres bound to be some idiot still hung over who will cause a multi-lane pile-up and block the highway for hours.

I'll be heading out to Lethbridge on Saturday afternoon, going into Montana on Sunday morning, and then back to Calgary on Monday.

I'm guessing the first two legs should be pretty smooth sailing -- any thoughts on the trip back from Montana on Monday?
