Yes, I can't stand Tillman but it's not right to pillory him without letting him have his day in court. It's too easy to assume someone is guilty just because you don't like them.

As far as the cap situation goes, what really annoys most people is that Saskatchewan kept crying poor all those years and yet now they seem to be ok with outspending everyone else. Whether or not the overspending is caused by injuries, that comes across as inexcusably hypocritical. The other 3 Western teams could outspend the Riders if they wanted to, but seem to take the cap seriously and ensure they leave room for injuries, whereas Tillman and the boys seem to use it as a starting point for what they spend, and not an endpoint.

Stampeders head coach/general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce the club has signed import linebacker Dwaine Carpenter. Carpenter spent the past two seasons with the club before becoming a free agent after Calgary’s 2008 championship campaign.

Very good signing... I really like this guy. He was #1 on my list of guys I hope we re-sign.

Now time to work on the D-Line.

New Bombers head coach Mike Kelly might be my new favourite person.

Quote:
During the annual event attended by some 300 Bomber fans, one fan referred to Regina as "the crotch of Canada." And later when new Bombers head coach Mike Kelly was talking about the trades made with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos, he picked up on the reference.

"We kind of raided the toothless, green, watermelon-helmet-wearing people from the crotch of Canada," Kelly said, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.

In other news, Allan Watt must be from Saskatchewan. What a bunch of crybabies.

Dickenson signs on as an Offensive Assistant!
http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=277084

Quote:
The team has scheduled a news conference at McMahon Stadium where it is expected they will introduce former Stampeders quarterback Dave Dickenson as an offensive assistant under head coach John Hufnagel.

Over his 10-year CFL career with the Stampeders and B.C. Lions, Dickenson made it to five Grey Cups and won three championships, including last year's triumph by the Stampeders.

The Montana native began his career with the Stampeders in 1997 and played back-up to Jeff Garcia in the Stampeders' Grey Cup victory in 1998. He was named the league's Most Outstanding Player in 2000 and decided to ply his trade in the NFL for the next two seasons, spending time with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions.

Dickenson holds league records for highest single-season completion rate, highest quarterback rating in a single season and all-time highest completion percentage.
A lot of people saw this coming when he signed here. It's a great next chapter in your career, Dave! Good luck.

So does that mean what it sounds like it means? In other words, will we start to see QBs lining up anywhere along the line (even at the end next to the WR)?

It just means that they don't have to snap the ball to the QB. You can have a receiver or RB line up behind the center. before, it was illegal to snap the ball to anyone but the QB. So I guess in certain wildcat formations, you don't even have to have the QB on the field.

Correct, if a QB is an athletic type (not a pocket passer) then it benefits a team a ton because the defence now must cover the QB as a reciever. So for Hank it will benefit him. I could also see them putting Nealy in as well for these situations. I believe he played some WR in college?

I like all of the new rules.

The Wildcat option allows for more trick plays, also it adds one player that the defense has to cover.

Always kicking after a field goal is good, keeps the game consistant, makes strategizing for the wind even more important, and allows a team down by 9, 10 or 11 in the closing seconds, who has the ball and in feild goal range to attempt a field goal, recover the onside kick, then attempt a hail mary, instead of running out of time trying to score a TD first, as you couldn't attempt a FG first under the old rules, as the other team would just take the ball at the 35.

Moving back the kickoff after safeties is good too, it really rewards teams who play good defense holding the other team near their own goal line. Giving up the safety was just getting to commonplace, to the point you pretty much knew it was always going to happen before it did. You are still going to see safeties, but there will be more thought and strategy put into them now by the coaches.

Third video review if the first two are successful is good too, now they just need to get enough cameras on the action so that there is more evidence on more calls, and they need to make the right call more often even when the video evidence CLEARLY shows something. Seriously, video review is somewhat useless when they still make the wrong call despite the video evidence showing undiputable evidence the other way. And they do that farily regularly in the CFL, in some games most of the video review calls have been wrong.

I read a bunch of the rule book a while back, and one thing that's in the rules that I've never seen called by a coach (and for good reason, as I can't think of any situation where it would make sense), is that a team that has just been scored on has the option of recieving the kickoff, or kicking off to the other team. I can't think of any situation where you would want to kick off to the other team after being scored on - the closest I've thought of is if you were the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, who, for a stretch had their defense almost outscoring their offense. But even then, it still doesn't really even make sense.

I like Nik, he is a very consistant player. I was hoping this news conference was to anounce the extension on Hank since hes in his last year.

Edit: I would also like to say he is a true team player, not selfish whatsoever. He thrives on his teammates doing well and IS the best blocker for a reciever in the league. Some of the blocks he makes are just massive, but he is willing to risk an injury for those extra 2 yards.

i'm sure they are just waiting on Hank to get closer to the season so they can create more buzz. maybe just before training camp opens? end of may beginning of june i would guess.

Edit: guess I should also say this is great news for the stamps and stamp fans. Lewis is money. And given another few years, he will own all Stampeder receiver records. Then he can go for CFL records. He puts his heart into the team on the field. Plays like he means it. Plays hurt, isn't afraid to grab the ball in the middle of the field exposing his body to a hit. He is the real deal and is deserving of a good contract. Glad he staying here. Especially since I have his jersey!

I love the new rule changes.

As an Esks fan I have mixed reaction on the Lewis signing.

Why? Stamps dont play the Esks until week 7 so you have Lumsden until then.

Anyone else going to Fan Fest on May 30?

A friend bought season tickets, how early should he get there to make sure he doesn't wait in line forever?

Nealy was released a few days ago.

I think you are thinking of Sankey. Nealy is the "future of the franchise"

Yeah, no way Nealy was released. Sankey was released. Nealy will be in camp.

He's on the roster still:

http://www.stampeders.com/team/player_roster/

Sankey is not.

If Huff implements the wildcat, the Stamps may have the best option in the league to do it with in Rambo. The guy has an arm and is as elusive as they come.

Can't wait till July 1

I could see them using Copeland... He was a QB in college or Nealy.
