Donnie Darko: the most overrated weird piece of crap I have ever seen. Heard so much praise for this thing and maybe that's why I didn't like it, but I found it almost unwatchable. I hated that movie, and don't understand why people like it so much.

The directors cut is better, but even the standard version of DD is a fantastic piece of cinema. Confusing as hell though.
I just watched the Spirit the other day, that was a strange one.

I caught the first half of Freddy Got Fingered recently. Really weird but it was actually kind of funny in parts. If it hadn't been on so late I might have watched the whole movie instead of going to bed.

My hallucinogenic days are behind me, but watching 'Altered states' on mushrooms messed my head up pretty good. Its about a Harvard professor that experiments with hallucinogens and discovers that 'hallucinations' are part of a seperate world from ours, more primitive and surreal. By doing the most f'ed up drugs in the most f'ed up ways, our hero starts to blur the line and the hallucinogen world starts creeping into our world through him.
I've seen it sober and its not the same movie, being high, you can sympathize so deeply with the professor and get carried away by the trip-out sequences, that you feel like a part of the movie.
Also, Jesus with an 8-eyed goats head on the cross. I think this movie started the whole 'wake up naked next to a half-eaten deer' cliche.

The fact that it is so fck'd up. The kids were awesome in that, talk about casting. Harmony has come up with some interesting movies with Kids being his other "big" one.

Kids makes sense though, many kids could relate to that kind of life.

A couple of Aronofsky (Pi and Requiem for a Dream) films in there, eh? I loved Requiem for a Dream (very disturbing but amazingly well done) and saw The Fountain this week...that movie is a gong show. I didn't really enjoy it though...just too weird for my liking. Has anyone else seen it?

When I was a wee lad my brother and I watched a Canadian movie called "Pin". It was about a doctor who teaches his kids about anatomy using a life sized dummy with clear skin ... The doctor and his wife die in a car crash and Pin comes alive as the boys alter ego. My brother found it in one of those dollar bins a few years ago and gave it to me a christmas present.

I loved 'The Fountain' though I think I'm one of the few who did. I thought it was a pretty good look at the relationship between life/death and art, but there were a lot of narrative problems with it.
I'm with Fotze... any Lars von Trier movie really messes with your head. 'Breaking the Waves' in particular was either the most misogynist or feminist movie I've ever seen... I'm still not sure!
'Eyes Wide Shut' really rattled around my head for a while as I have no idea what it's supposed to be about.
As for the OP, 'Gummo' was nuts... I felt so repulsed by it I had to turn it off half-away. Still never saw it all. And I really liked 'Kids' which had the same screenwriter...
