How 'bout that Cecil? 8 innings of shutout ball, only 5 hits.

Really good outing by Cecil today. Hopefully they can get the next three outs and come home with another series win.

Yay Cecil! I'm cautiously optimistic about this season for the Jays. Seems like the chemistry that's been lacking has finally arrived. Laughed my arse off the other night when ESPN did a little story on the "Beast of the East" Jays. Every time I catch a highlight the team looks like they're really excited for eachother, but I guess winning will do that. Lets keep it going against the Yanks!

Either way.........man, a lot of fun to watch these guys at the plate right now. Awesome depth. And I agree with ST about Scutaro.......right now he's the straw that stirs the drink. Quiet, consistent, solid player. One of the better moves over the past few years.
The offense is firing on all cylinders, but you know the old saying: "Rookie pitchers will break your heart."

Our rotation could go either way and with it goes this team.

Yeah, the litmus test for pitching this young is how they do their 3rd, 4th time out. Give big league hitters a chance to get a book on these guys and a bit of a history to study tendencies than see if they still have the stuff to get it done. I guess we'll see if it holds up especially as they start playing within the Division here.

Tuesday's game will be the best of the year so far. AJ Burnett returns to Toronto to pitch against the Jays. Oh yeah and some guy named Halladay will be starting for Toronto.

Oh, that'll be sick, I can't wait. Hopefully it'll bring out a huge crowd in toronto.

Yankees in town always draws bigger crowds + Halladay pitching + Burnett's return, should equal a large crowd.

Scutaro has been my favorite Jay since he arrived in Toronto. I keep waiting for them to stumble in a big way, but they always seems to bounce back after a loss. The rookie pitching has been great, but like was said earlier we'll see how the hold up as the season wears on.

Nerd-tastic analysis of Cecil's pitches.

http://bjays.wordpress.com/2009/05/1...ffspeed-pitch/

Of note: buddy says that Cecil's slider and 2-seam fastball have the same release point and move in different directions. That is a very strong asset.

I'm hoping for a big crowd tomorrow at Roger's Center.

I know its early, but is anyone else a bit disappointed in the fan support the Jays are getting at home? It would be nice to see that place back to 1990-93 levels again.

I am really debating going tomorrow, weekday games are hard though with the 4 hours total of driving, if the 401, 427 and Gardner (or 403, QEW Gardner) are not backed up, to see a 3-hour game. I have done them before, but weekend games are more likely to be attended by people in my situation.

All I can say is Wow. I keep waiting for them to fall off, lose 3 or 4 in a row, the bats to go cold, the pen to implode, hasn't happened. It's only mid-May and they have only played 1 series in the East, but I really like the makeup of this team. This Yanks series will be a test, hope the fans come out and really give the guys the support they deserve.

Hill is my favourite player and it was really tough to see him have those injuries last year, can't believe how great he has been this season. Doc's a horse, top 3 in the mlb, don't care what anyone says. Lind's ABs are a pleasure to watch, he's hopefully going to be a real player for a long time. Really like Snider getting the chance to play, he's made some great defensive plays and the hitting will come, future cornerstone of the Jays hopefully. Cecil looked great yesterday, really confident, picking spots, he should be a treat to watch. Cito seems to have a good feel for the club and the chemistry seems to be building. I really hope this is the year they break through. I'm going to TO this weekend, going to Flashback Friday, can't wait. It's great to be excited about baseball again and i'm getting MLB extra inninings right now because of my CI, anyone else get this little treat?

Totally. I was just looking at attendance numbers over the last few years and the Jays have been 18th in the league for the last 3 seasons, however that is up from 25th in 2002 so they must be doing something right marketing wise. Basically, I know this is no revelation, the Jays need to make the playoffs in order to get seasons tickets sales up. If the Jays make the playoffs this year I am flying to Toronto.

Really loud boos and "AJ sucks" chants to greet Burnett.

Let's hope this doesn't have the Wince (sic) Carter effect.

So far the pitching has been as advertised. They are now in the top of the 4th inning and there has only been 1 hit combined between the two teams.

Welcome back to Toronto AJ! Gotta love the power from 2B that is Aaron Hill. At this point he's batting .357 with 9 HR. That puts him on pace for about 40 on the year.
