Canadian born actor James Doohan aka Scottie from Star Trek has died at age 85.
Even the vaunted dilithium crystals couldn't help this beloved character against Alzheimers and a bout of pneumonia.

Wow, I had no idea he was Canadian, and a DDay vet for the Canadian forces to boot. We'll miss ya, Scotty.

When the series ended in 1969, Doohan found himself typecast as Montgomery Scott, the canny engineer with a burr in his voice. In 1973, he complained to his dentist, who advised him: "Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow."
"I took his advice," said Doohan, "and since then everything's been just lovely."

that's a great line.something I wish you would hear more from actors who have made millions of dollars (and millions of people happy) from playing a specific role

the line about Bill Shatner was funny too....guess the 2 Canucks didnt' get along that well in outerspace

Everything I ever needed to know, I learned from Scotty:
	Quote:

		| Kirk: "Have you always multiplied your repair estimates by a factor of 4?"

Scotty: "Certainly, Sir. How else can I keep my reputation as a miracle worker?"

Some hockey players would be wise to take this advice.... most enforcers aren't going to morph into a playmaking dynamo despite what they think.

James Doohan was apparently a real joker, a great guy to have around... and Scotty was one of the coolest and most memorable characters in any show, Star Trek or other wise... he will be missed.
