Even if there is blood, Dexter would be the one who analyzes it.

Maybe Debra>>>>>>Rita means Debra can beat up Rita, which I have no coubt is true. As for Debra being more attractive, someone's been watching a different version of the show that I have. To each his own, I guess.

I thought it was a really good season, and I liked the finale. I have been able to guess the endings of the last two seasons, but not this one. I figured the skinner would capture him, but I was starting to think that Debra would save him.
I did like last season a little better. I liked Doakes better than Miguel and in particular Dexter's struggle with what to do with him. Dexter didn't really have a personal struggle this season once he let Miguel in on the action.
I like the surprise bachelor party one or two episodes ago. I didn't see that one coming.
It will be interesting to see what the next season will bring. Debra will obviously learn more about Dexter's mother. Other than that, I don't know if there will be anything major that carries into the new season. Dexter will not have left any evidence at the cigar factory, since that is not the pattern of the show. I think that the major plot lines with the skinner and with Ramon Prado are done. I believe that the blood on the dress was just imagery.
It's possible that Rita's 1st husband comes into the mix, but I doubt it.

I think that would be a very cool way to do season 5/6 (if the series goes that long). Have Dexter and Rita's kid get older and show signs of being a sociopath (killing small animals, hurting kids at school, no feeling of remose, etc...) and have Dexter really struggle with what to do. Lots of flashbacks to his father... maybe Dexter will have trained his son/daughter to continue the legacy just in time before his capture/death.
I really hope Debra's character either takes off next season (digging into Dexter's past) or dies off (either literally or makes way for more character development of LaGuerta/Debra's partner/Rita's family, etc...). It's the predictableness of her character that has me at this stage - she's loyal, wants to be like her father, is chasing her badge/promotion, low self-confidence/esteem, etc... blah blah blah.
The other characters have become so much more well rounded and developed while Debra's has stayed... boring.
Anyways, awesome show. Watching Michael C. Hall in this and having been a fan of Six Feet Under, his talent and scope of acting ability is quite something. I look forward to a major movie role.

I'm loving Lauren Velez (I think that's her name). She's done a wonderful job as LaGuerta.
One example: her reaction to Miguel Prado's headlights blinding her. You could see the thoughts play across her face; first the annoyance of being blinded, then the quick processing of information, and the sudden realization that Prado could have killed Ellen Wolf.

Soooo... I generally don't have a problem separating fiction and reality, but this just gives me a weird feeling inside. Michael C Hall (Dexter) and Jennifer Carpenter (Debra) got married.

Technically they are not blood related in the show so it's all good, right? Poor Rita though...

I think my biggest problem with it is I can't stand Debra on the show and I know she's acting but even her voice annoys me. I can't fathom having to listen to her all the time.

I just got Dexter Season 1 last night on DVD. Its kinda interesting going back and re-watching all of the episodes because you can really notice how much all of the characters have changed over the 3 seasons.

I'm guessing this relationship will be the subject of many showbiz blind items, if it hasn't been already.

Thanks to VanIsleFlamesFan for pointing out that this is available for free via Shaw OnDemand; I couldn't sleep on Saturday night so I watched the entirety of Season 2. I watch very little television, but this was well worth the time.
The one thing I don't like is Rita and her effect on Dexter - I think she is incredibly annoying with her childish voice and mannerisms; I kept hoping Lila would kill her and it would lead to Dexter getting "darker" instead of trying to humanize himself. I realize the writers are trying to depict tension between his good and evil sides, but they do a poor job IMO of making her a character that you would see attracting Dexter at all - Lila was a thousand times more believable as his lover than Rita will ever be.

The thing with Rita is that Dexter was chose her not because he was attracted to her but because he wanted someone emotionally unavailable that he could use to provide a cover of normalcy. He wanted her because he thought she'd never expect anything from him given her past and he wanted a girlfriend to enhance his persona of a normal person.

That makes sense, but I wouldn't put up with her passive-aggressive needy crap, so why does he? Once she started to thaw, he should have been looking elsewhere for cover, not giving into her dubious charms. That he doesn't seems to indicate that he truly does care for her and the kids, but I have to question: why?
I just don't see their relationship as being based on anything real. He cannot explain his true self to her, so how can it be emotionally satisfying? What exactly is it about her that inspires him to such torments of the soul? I just think she is an uninteresting and vapid character and find the idea of obsessing over her bland suburban charms laughable considering what Dexter is - a man who lives an intense, complex private life that requires hugely violent stimuli to make him feel anything at all.

Yeah, I read somewhere they are going to start filming pretty soon (spring/summer-ish) and it should start up in the fall.
I seriously can't wait. I'm such a loser I'll probably go back and watch older episodes just to keep me going until then.
