I am not going to argue with people who have a "god" complex thinking because you were born into the human race you are free to do whatever you want to other forms of life on the planet. You have your views and I have mine, we can banter all day and neither view will change.

So you're a creationist, are you? We evolved like every other animal on this planet. We have the same incentives for survival. Fortunately (or unfortunately) we also evolved a massive cerebral cortex which allows us to take advantage of our environment in ways other animals cannot. What is your solution? Humans don't damage ecosystems because we are a mindless parasite, we often do it to survive. The trick is to change the incentives, not become a mindless and arrogant granola like yourself.

Maybe the people who lost work should not have over fished the Cod that they are whining are being eaten by the seal's. There was never a problem with nature before the hunt started was there? The Seal has just as much right to life as any other creature. Maybe we should have a human hunt as our numbers are extremely out of control. As for the people who lost their whopping $2300 income from butchering an innocent animal I say good, that's karma. Now get a real job!
I would like to subscribe to your news letter and inquire as to where I can get a human hunting license. The wife has been asking for a fresh pelt in front of the fire place at the hunting lodge, and I said to myself "Self, Jessica's Simpson's pelt would look awesome in front of the old fire place"

And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams? And the angel said unto me, These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust. And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers! Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah? Thank you Jesus.

(Name the song- no google allowed).

Oh I see, so we extinct the passenger pigeon to survive even though they we considered fun to kill, not a food source. Oh wait, cutting down the rainforests is cruicial to our survival too as we would die without cheap paper. Oh, and wait Elephants are almost extinct because we could never survive without ivory. When are you going to look in the mirror and admit that humans have made too many mistakes selfishly in the past and feel a bit of shame on what we have done? Never, because people like you don't give a crap. Who cares if animals die, if the world is over polluted and the planet is dying, it won't be your generation that pays the price right? I am done discussing this with you, it's pointless.

The collapse of the Atlantic cod stocks was caused by more factors then Canadian overfishing.

There are several good books out there on the issue..buy one....get educated.

The European union still pillage the Grand banks just outside Canadian Territory.

Why do we care about seals but not cows, pigs, etc?

Hypocrisy, imo.

And the use of the hakapik (sp?) in the Seal hunt was outlawed several years ago.

Great, but do Lions have any other choice? Do you hunt for your food or buy it from a grocery chain that gets it's meat from an inhumane slaughter house?

Actually is is not. The hakapik has a restriction on its use to be on seals one year old and younger (the majority of seals that are slaughtered) and seals that are over one year old have to be shot (the minority).

As Peter12 pointed out, humans have a larger brain, we don't have to hunt. If lions could, I am sure they would set up a giant meat packing plant on the plains of Africa.

They could not think that their right to live supersedes any other's.

Of course, that's totally moronic...

Out of curiosity, would it be more humane if Safeway owned large herds of cows and pigs, and hired people to spear them to death as needed?

Human beings are omnivores. You may choose to be a vegetarian, but guess, what? I don't. And there isn't a single holier-than-thou argument that any vegetarian/vegan can invent that invalidates the natural order of things.

If you want to argue whether or not food production methods are humane, that is one thing. But animals are not all equals. They are either predators or they are prey. Predators eat the prey. Grade one science class. Sucks to be the pigs and cows who are our prey.
