Thumbs up Europe bans Canadian seal products

I know not everyone agrees with eachother on this issue, for me as an animal rights advocate(not PETA, they are idiots) this is a great day for our seals.

Tell that to the people who will lose work because of this.

I guess your one of the media guppies who cry at the footage from 15 years ago of a single baby seal getting killed.

Why do seal rights matter more than human family rights? Some people are going to have trouble putting food on the table and clothes on their children's backs because of "animal rights activists" like yourself. Good work.

This strikes me as a grandstanding article.

1) Inuit are exempt
2) Small scale hunts for population control are still allowed
3) The market for seal products has dipped and only 1/3 the number of sealers as last year went out anyways.

So what did this bill really accomplish?

Nope, I am a vegan and I value an adult seal's life just as much as a baby's.
Maybe the people who lost work should not have over fished the Cod that they are whining are being eaten by the seal's. There was never a problem with nature before the hunt started was there? The Seal has just as much right to life as any other creature. Maybe we should have a human hunt as our numbers are extremely out of control. As for the people who lost their whopping $2300 income from butchering an innocent animal I say good, that's karma. Now get a real job!

Is anyone else appalled on how plants are harvested. I mean they are either cut from the waste up, or violently and without remorse pulled up from the ground, smothering them.

And look how they are grown. They are practically "waterboarded" with water forcing them to either die of drowing or suck the water into their roots, and then they are left for months in the scorching sun with no protection from the earths harmful UV rays. Thier only solice is that before they die of cancer they are inhumanely killed and eaten by a vile creature known as man.

How disgusting. I say we ban all plant products from Europe. Those vile butchers.

That's an unethical and frankly, unintelligent perspective. Why are people like you so obviously out of sync with real life?

Because I am not an arrogant human being like you! When are we going to learn that we are not more important then animals! You think so because you are human but I am sure the animal sees it different! There are already too many people on the earth, we are the only species that destroys everything we come in contact with, we have endangered other animals or put them to extinction and you think you have more of a right to be here because you were born a human? Will we ever evolve?

Vegans only care about animals because they scream and cry.

Plants have a quiet dignity and we humans just take advantage of it.

Sickening. Truly.

If someone could work any number of those in with a photo of seal pup, I would use it.

The ban doesn't actually single out Canada as the thread title suggests: the ban is on all seal imports. There's still some hypocracy given how many animals die in European fur farms every year (in the order of millions). Is it more humane to 'farm' animals rather than hunt them? If we set up seal farms rather than hunting them in the wild, does this somehow make it better? Or are seals somehow sacred when compared with foxes and mink?
I think it was inevitable that the seal hunting industry would eventually die, and fur farming will eventually follow the same fate, but for the EU to claim any moral high ground here is ridiculous.

You sir have the primative perspective. I see everything living on an equal plane as it should be. Your point of view is what makes being a human being on the grand scale embarrassing! You want real life, animals are not destroying everything the earth offers, we are. That's reality.

No, I am pretty sure the animal is thinking, "Need food, must kill something... must get genes into next generation.... I'm tired."

I presume this should have been in green. In my over 32 years of being a vegetarian I have heard this plants statement so many times it is truly boring. Not clever really. If that is the best you can do?

The holier-than-thou shtick isn't exactly humble.

How about stop treating your diet like it's a political statement? Better?
