It does in the sense that cars that hold resale value better typically last longer.
Every car in one market segment can be made to look like the "right" car, they all look good new, it's about how well the car ages.

If someone was to trade a car in for another one and the amount the dealer offered as trade in didn't pay off the amount owing is it possible to include the extra amount in the new financing at a lower rate than the old loan?

Yup, there are a couple of conditions as to how much can be rolled into the next finance term but yeah, it can be done.

I still have my Learner license. I have been saving for a car for a while now and have about $20,000 to spend. I've been lookin at Acura RSX's and Mazda 3's but should I get a newer car or a older one?

Look at what you need. And all the other costs that come with it such as Fuel Consumption, insurance, etc...
I would imagine the RSX will have a higher insurance than a Mazda 3. Insurance on used cars tend to be cheaper than insurance on new cars. If you are the flashy kind of guy, go with the RSX but if you are someone who is likely to end up being the DD, I call for the Mazda 3.
If you go for used, I will say this about the Mazda 3. The models from early years (04-06) are starting to show signs of rust. If you get a car from those years, make sure you inspect for both rust, especially near the wheels.
If you have enough, I'd certainly say go for new if you do the Mazda 3, go for the 2009 model that are still "new" or a demo, there's cash incentives if you decide to pay for all of it. I highly doubt Financing or leasing rates that Mazda is offering at that great.

So me and my wife got married and we both brought a car into the relationship. We both happen to work at the same place and her car just sits at home all the time, we barely even drive it. We are making payments on it and having our cars both fully insured costs quite a bit. We wanna trade our cars in and get maybe a new or nearly new CRV or Rav4 (still undecided).
Anyways I drive a 2005 Honda Civic special edition coupe 5 speed (A/C, keyless entry, center console). Its a high mileage car at almost 250k highway miles and still runs like new. I owe about 3700 on it and everything in good condition considering.
My wife's car is a 2004 Mazda 3 with 120k on it. Its pretty much loaded with power everything and sunroof, just no leather. She owes 13500 on it still.
I'm just hoping that we get at least what we owe on our cars so we can shop with a clean slate. Am I being unreasonable?

I'd say stay away from the Honda CRV, it's "real-time" AWD won't do much for you in the snow.
As for your trades, you might find it hard to get $13500 for your wife's '04 Mazda 3 considering there's so many for sale right now and $13500 is the range of what an '05 Mazda 3 is retailing for.
The easiest car to sell privately will be your Civic, so if you can sell that for more than what you have owing on it then you can use that extra cash to offset the balance on your wifes car.
Either way you'll have to get creative on this one, good luck!

sorry i missed this the other day..
Right now 04 mazda 3's are going through the wholesale auctions at a $6-$8000 average depending on model
Cars like your civic are going through in the similar 6-$8k range but with an average milage of 80,000km
These are wholesale values that dealers are selling to each other. you will get more selling yourself but as a guide might help you a bit.

Not really the right thread for this but I have 1 important question.
Does anyone know how much a 2007 Grand Cherokee can hold for weight in the hatch?
I need to transport about 1100 lbs of metal back from edmonton, will it be okay on the Cherokee's suspension?

I have been interested in buying a car through a private seller. I asked the person for the VIN# so I can run a few reports on the car and he seems to be ignore me after asking for it, what could be the reason? stolen? been in an accident?
Do people not like giving out the VIN# because I can potentially do something bad with it?

theoretically you could place a lien on the vehicle if you have the VIN number but honestly, I dont think there is any harm in passing the information out. I would probably move on if he isnt interested in supplying it to you.

I think that there may be Privacy issues around releasing vehicle inforamation to anyone but the registered owner.

Yes, it would be spread out over the entire back floor.
The 1100 lbs number is just a ballpark. It's 110 metal tree/fence T-stakes, I assume they weigh about 10 lbs each. Anyone know exactly what that weigh?

let make a few assumptions...
If you threw 2 - 250lbs guys in the back seat, it would be fine now add another 600lbs of material in the back.
I cant find any cargo weight information for you, just cargo capacity, as in litres.
IMHO, you would be seriously stretching the cargo carrying ability of your SUV. But again, thats just my opinion.

Mhh good point.
For what it's worth, my friend is driving this back for me, and she a small 120 lbs girl. So the total capacity should be well under 1400 lbs, but I have no idea if that is safe or not.
But maybe to be safe I'll just get to grab half the load for now.

Awesome Sample00, big thanks to you! It's my friends dad's vehicle so I really didn't want to F around. Guess I'll stick to half the load for now.
Thanks again!
