I have never been so happy to be on a Farm team! (good restaurant!)

Tonight I went with a group to a wine and cheese bar/cheese shop on 17th Ave called "Farm"! I had never been there before, but it was just great- we booked as a group sitting at a nice large table called the Harvest table. My meal cost me about $45ish dollars including wonderful wine (shared a couple bottles), shared appetizers (bleu cheese to die for, smoked bison, prosciutto, good grainy mustard, etc.), a really nice fillet of halibut with roasted vegetables perfectly cooked, and a creme brulee that was just great!

It was a year end celebration for a class I was in. (It is expensive for me lol, but I enjoyed it so much it was worth it!) I was very impressed, and I figured CP might want to know about this place. It's great for groups to share stuff, but it could also be good for a romantic meal perhaps (better the first way, though).

Good post dude! I like hearing about this kind of stuff. There are some great events / shindigs around town, you just have to look for them.

Farm is Janice Beaton's restaurant venture. Locally sourced foods, organic, etc etc etc.

I'd love to try it, Muse in Kensington is still my favorite - never been disappointed there.

My only criticism of the restaurant was that they had lots of locally produced food, but very few BC wines. I do think that is a shame.

i checked the link and while the objectives all sound reasonable, the premise of "slow" food is quite snobbish if you ask me.

That location has actually now moved to the 16th ave facing side of Farm.

There's also a location on Kensington Road right next to Kensington Wines.

There is a very, very good reason for a restaurant which takes its wine seriously to not include a lot of BC wines on its list. At Farm, which is an awesome restaurant, it is particularly important to have the best wines for its cheeses.

Unfortunately, while you can get some very nice wine from British Columbia, you can almost always get a better wine from somewhere else, for the same price.

Oh, I know it's technically on 16th Ave, but for ease, I said 17th. I forgot about the Kensington location.

DR - yeah, the slow food movement is a bit elitist I think - I like some of the principles about it, but how many people have the time to do that stuff every day?

Slow food is one of those ideas that sounds great--creating a more reasonable, sustainable, environmentally friendly and tastier food culture for everyone... but what makes it elitist is that it presumes mountains of excess leisure time and disposable income, which just isn't a reality for the average person.

On the other hand--some of the best restaurants I've been to are "Slow Food" movement affiliated.
