Utopia for Intellivision. Way ahead of its time.

The very first game I every play was Combat for the 2600 and to this day is my 'nostalgia' game.

But the games I recall wasting hours and quarters on were Defender (at the pizza place in my home town), Galaga and Moon Patrol (both at my local movie theatre). Both Galaga and Moon Patrol had me hooked (of course have Galaga for the xbox, but would really like to find a Moon Patrol game).

The other game for the 2600 which really got me was Acitivision Ice Hockey - my friends and I would setup little mini tournaments.

Worst game - Pac Man for the 2600. It was cool in the Arcade because there was nothing like it, but the port to the 2600 (widescreen low res graphics) pretty much ruined Pac Man for me.

Great game. I remember when B-17 Bomber came out with the Intelli-Voice. It blew me away as a kid.. "Talking video games!!??!!" "Flak, watch for flak"..

For those of you who like Punch out, get ready for the Wii version. It looks AWESOME!

I only care about old videogames.

Try to get me to play a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and I'll feel sick or come up with lame excuses to sit out because I hate them so gosh darn much. Words cannot explain how much I utterly hate these consoles and their games (aside from a few good 2D games on Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network like the Pixeljunk ones or Super Stardust HD).

Sit me in front of an NES, an Atari, a Coleco, some Arcade Roms, an Intellivision, a Master System, even Genesis, etc. or even classic PC games before the 3D era and I'm a happy camper.

And I'm not old. For me, the gaming experience isn't just about the games, but the era and atmosphere and history of it all. The other day I played Gorf and that game is older than I am and it was just amazing imagining people playing this back in the day in jam packed arcades which I only have hazy memories of.

I'm not a luddite though, I will always play the latest highest end graphics games on PC and love them (but not if they are 3rd person - heck, I even want somebody to come up with 1st person hockey or baseball! 3rd person 3D views make me nauseous). I just hate modern consoles with a burning passion that words cannot express.

Mega Man 2, followed closely with Super Mario Land

MM2 was the first Nintendo game I managed to beat. I recently bought it on compilation for the Gamecube and found I was absolutely terrible at it now. I had mad skills (and far too much time) as a kid

I agree Hack, I BARELY play video games anymore even when offered. It just doesn't have the same gameplay, fun factor, and even emotion that the older games have. Anything before and during the SNES era is great, anything else is pushing it (n64 for a couple of games).

And I'm only 25!

Vic 20: Adventureland
Atari: Yars Revenge
Nintendo:Act Raiser, Super Dodgeball
Super Nintendo: Bubble Bobble, Top Gear 2
PC Engine/Turbo Grafix: Dungeon Explorer and Devil's Crush

Totally agree. After watching that vid in your post, I must have spent the next hour watching clips from various parts of that game. That was my first console and my first game for it, good times. Things got even better with the Ocarina of time. Not often I play games from start to end but sure did with those two.

PC Nostalgia would have to come down to Counter Strike, NWN and WoW for me.

The first Ninja Turtle's game was pretty bad. It wasn't the crappiest game I've ever played, but it was definitely one of the hardest. Try as I might, I would always get to the last level with barely any of my guys left. I was only able to pass that sucker with the Game Genie. I think that and Battletoads were the hardest games I've ever played.

Funny thing watch the AVGN videos, I actually didn't think Double Dragon 3 was that bad, or that hard.

I think the best game ever on the NES would be a tie between the first Zelda and Super Mario Bros 3.

You made it to the last level??? I couldn't even get past the swimming level with the time bomb.

Best game on NES is tough to finger, there's so much good stuff in different genres. I'd say Punch-Out, Batman, or Legend of Zelda

The colecovision was intense. I was very young but I still remember several of the games. Frenzy was craziness and i recall a smurfs game that I'm pretty sure took about 3 minutes to beat.

As far as the NES goes I'm not sure I played anything more than Ice Hockey. Does anybody remember the Bugs bunny game with all the tubes? That had to be one of the most expectantly wicked games of all time.

The worst? All I can remember is a friday the 13th game. You'd go cabin to cabin and inevitably run into jason (or rather a screen shot of a poorly drawn jason), and then the game would be over. It never made any sense.

I hold a lot of nostalgia for games from back in the day, but if the Virtual Console has taught me anything it's that I just don't feel the immersion that I used to. Some games I refuse to play if given the chance because my memories are so much better than the real thing.

Not to break up the focus on console games, but TIE FIGHTER for PC has to be one of the all time bests.

Worst? Many have already been mentioned, but the Adventures of Bayou Billy for NES was hated by all when I was a kid b/c it was so bloody hard. I've emailed James Rolfe (AVGN) about it as I think he would hilariously shread that p.o.s., but so far no dice.

I loved that game. I actually thought it was better than Blades of Steel. The fat slow guy with the hard slapper was always my favorite. He can always easily beat up the small skinny guy too during the scrums. My friends and I used to have tournaments with that game, and I used to always be the Americans cuz I liked the baby blue colour

For really old games, there was Superstar ice hockey for the C64, which was way ahead of its time as it included trades, farm systems and a draft and the game play was quite good.

Beach Head which was really a bunch of games in one which included shooting down enemy fighters from your battleship, then shelling an enemy fleet, then invading a beach, then holding it with your machine gun. It was one of the first games with ingame speech which features your enemies screaming and crying out for medics as you riddle them with bullets.

Forbidden forward was a fun side shooter where your hero used a bow and arrow to get through various levels featuring various monsters. The super boss was the devil himself and you could only see him during lightning

On the Pc I'm still very partial to Wing Commander and the series that came after it.
