Well I guess we should have seen this coming!
Reading Harry Potter books corrupts the soul. Im trying to bite my tongue again....
Pope pitches poop...
Pope Benedict believes the
Harry Potter books subtly seduce young readers and "distort Christianity in the soul" before it can develop properly...
When will people realize that its the churches and those that run them that are corrupt!

Larf. Yeah, kids are going to leave Christianity in favor of talking hats and invisible trains.
Maybe there is another reason they are turning away? Nah, couldn't be.
Oh well.

Not sure how accurate this is:
Quote:
The Times report from Nov 25, 1996 said: "Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, head of the modern successor to the Inquisition, said there were 'diabolical and satanic messages' in much of today's heavy metal music. But he also warned the young against the 'subliminal' satanic influence to be found in songs by such groups as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Queen, Led Zeppelin and the Eagles.
"Speaking yesterday at a Mass marking the feast of St Cecilia, the patron saint of music, Cardinal Ratzinger agreed that there were many good things in modern pop music, but added that there was also a great deal that 'endangers the human soul'. He urged heavy metal bands in particular to 'purify themselves'.
"Vatican officials identified some of the 'worst offenders' as Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and AC/DC, whose initials they claimed referred not to alternating current or even bisexuality, but to the satanic phrase 'Anti-Christ, Death to Christ'."

I have a brother in law that won't let his boys experience anything Harry Potter. I don't get it. To be honest, Harry Potter books are probably why my 10 year old reads like a college age kid. It's entertaining reading, even for adults.
Cheese....great statement about churches and their leaders. I agree and it's a big reason why I don't attend any church. I think we have to be careful and realize there is a separation between churches and the religions they are supposed to promote. There are plenty of 'good Christians' who think the pope is off his rocker on this one.

No doubt. Those books have made readers (or better readers) out of more kids than anything else. I suppose I'm an adult but I don't like the books.
I did have to sit through approximately 10 thousand hours of children reading the first 2 though so I've had enough.

Bloody hell, I strongly suggest that everyone avoids a chapters bookstore tonight. What kind of self respecting adult gets dressed up as a bloody 15 year old boy witch.

I feel sorry for people who take the pope's views on Harry Potter books and rock music seriously.
