Animals don't know hate, contempt, anger and all those other wonderful emotions humans have. They don't go around killing people over $5 drug debts, kill theie families becuase their mate is leaving them.
Actually, this is mostly incorrect. Most of the awful stuff that humans do to one another also happens in the wild.

Torture is the only exception I can think of.
Really? I would love to see some examples of things people do to other people that animals do as well (outside the typical prey/predator scenario of course) that isn't based on something territorial or other such basic animal instinct for survival.

Not suprising really, many animals play with their prey like that as part of their learning process in hunting. Doesn't mean for a second that it's reason is they same as a bunch of teenager beating on a homeless guy for instance.

Animals rape (whales), cheat (penguins), murder and/or cannibalize their young (lions/snakes), and go to war with each other over territory they don't necessarily need (chimps). Oh yeah, and they also torture other animals for fun, as troutman was kind enough to point out.
None of those things are explicitly required for their survival.
What? you referenced Princess Margo Loose Curtains from the yahoo boards?
Please hurry I have to pee and I am scared to get off the couch.
Wicked!
Hahaha, fair enough. That was the first google search result and there were a dozen people saying that yes, their cats do in fact torture mice when given the opportunity.
i know this statemenet wont be popular, but i have a particular dislike for most pets, especially dogs.
that being said, it takes a messed up person to hurt a pet. i think society does get more upset about cruelty to animals then to humans, but both deserve punishment.
No idea whales raped, how did they prove it was rape? Was it based purely on lust or was there some other reason? Penguins cheat? Ok. Lions/snakes/many other species cannibalize there young or the young of others to reduce competition.
Really, at the end of the day, humans do FAR worse things to each other than animals for FAR lesser reasons.
The chimp examples aren't the greatest either seeing as they are the one animal that is our closest relative. No huge surprise to see we share some similar aggresive tendencies.

Wouldn't your argument and Troutman's video be more pertinent if it was cats capturing and torturing kittens or other cats?
For the record I don't want that heroin addict ho to be dead or executed. I just want to punch her in the face. Also I do not approve of people pack taping babies to their fridges either.

Dolphins have been known to pack-rape porpoise, whales chase down and gang-rape a female in front of her young (in at least one documentary I've seen), primates capture females from rival clans and rape them for weeks.
Is that about survival?
FWIW, humans are much more complex sociologically and necessarily have more horrible acts at their disposal than any animal. I'm not trying to argue that animals are worse than humans, it's apples and oranges. I'm just saying that you might not see your puppy do it; but animals do plenty of stuff that would make your stomach turn.

Actually I'd say it's the opposite. We're talking about how awful it is for a human to torture a smaller weaker mammal (a dog), and how animals would never do something like that.
