Default All I did was click on a link...honestly!

So I'm on a forum on the weekend (not this one). I click on a link. The link starts to open, another pops up and starts to open, another pops up and starts to open, on and on and on. I'm watching these multiple links opening. They're all the same link. I'm trying to close these links but the system seems to be occupied with all these links opening. I think there were at least 10 in the process of opening before I shut off the computer. I restarted it and when I restarted the computer everything was back to normal.

Does anyone know what was happening here? Why would that link open multiple times? Should I be concerned?

I'm on that same computer now and it's acting normally.

Porn sites are a b#tch.

You'd better run your anti malware and anti virus software .

This happened to me once when I was heading out the door to a final exam in highschool. My bus was probably 2 minutes away and I had to take off, and all of a sudden porn popups start going EVERYWHERE. I was obviously still living at home, so leaving the computer in such a state was unacceptable, so I had to deal with the problem (took about 10 minutes) and take a cab to school.

I learned my lesson. Find one good porn site and run with it.

I hope and trust you're joking. I don't do porn crap. I ran a malware scan on the weekend and am running a virus check now. So far nothing has come up.

I just noticed something. My virus check runs automatically at noon. I was running a virus check when the automatic virus check started. What happens when you're running a virus check and the same virus check starts automatically when one is already running. I use AVG.

Moral of the story: Don't click any links on the internet.

That happened to me once before. I restored my system after a reboot, and I was fine.

Someone told me the constant popups thing is called "Gain", but I ran a google search and could only find obscure references to it.

There are also joke sites that use exploitations in Flash and most of the standard web-browsers (incl. standard Non-NoScripted Firefox) that essentially highjack your browser.

Some of this stuff will even affect safari.

Another reason why Flash must die.

If I could stab it to death, I would.... Die! Die!! Die!!! (If there were a smiley for a stabbing motion, I'd insert it here.)

I was using Firefox and tried to install the latest version of Flash for a web conference I was taking part in but it didn't install properly. Does it not work with Firefox?

Years back I was sitting in on a presentation that my boss was giving....he was using Joe Boxer's site and somehow linking off that site at the time took you to a porn site....the pop ups starting flying as he was trying to keep up, clicking like a mad man trying to close each offensive window.

Hilarious stuff.

Happened to my wife today. She was on Facebook and went to play a game of Scramble and suddenly IE 7 started to open up window after window after window and then IE completely crashed before I could open up task manager. Then an error thingy from Vista came up determining that Adobe Flash Player was the problem

I can imagine his face was turning 10 shades of red. The ultimate embarassment.

Just keep hitting Alt+F4 repeatedly - you can do that faster than the pop-ups.
