it was that aspect that made me really enjoy last night....."freckles" has also undergone a change....

Bump

Hell of an episode last night, as we saw Ben was actually human and felt guilty about the death of his daughter and hesitated in killing charles daughter. Was also nice to see Desmond again.

Locke makes his further return as creepy guy who could be smoke monster. Ben is warned by his dead daughter not to kill Locke.

We finally see the underneath of the temple. Interesting stuff as we see what looks like Egyptian symbols and a picture of the god Anubis summoning a monster. Anubis was the god of mummification and the afterlife. Sure makes a strong argument that the Island might be a part of the afterworld doesn't it.

It was great to see a human side if Ben. so used to Ben being ruthless but we see he spared Russo and and his daughter even though whitmore wanted them both dead. It was also intersting to see the removal of Whitmore. He broke the rules. kept leaving and had Penny with an outsider..interesting wish we could see the temple itself and find out what its all about... future episodes i am sure.

So does that mean the four toed statue is Anubis? Or just another god?

I'm liking this confident, leading Locke, instead of the sad ass, used Locke. This is how I've always pictured how he should be. I don't think he's Smokie, at all. The fact that Smokie either summoned/took the form of, Ben's daughter and forcibly warned him not to touch Locke gives it away. If Ben tried to kill Smoke Monster Locke, there wouldn't be much of Ben left after he got through with him, why bother even warning him?

Great episode, we see that things are moving forward, instead of just watching Jack and Hurley walk around in Dharma jumpsuits.

It's going to be great to see Desmond and Ben meeting again (remember, Eloise said that the island is not done with him yet, so he will have to return to the island somehow IMO).

I don't think Locke is the monster, the monster was taking appearances as other people (Ecko's brother IIRC) before John's encounter with the underworld. So it wouldn't make sense if Locke was the monster all along. He clearly didn't seem to be "connected" with the monster in the past.

I am on the side of those that think the story is moving into the reason why all this is happening, a staff change so to speak on the island. It's rumored that Christian is the or next Jacob, Locke will take the reigns of Richard and he will have to find a leader much like what Richard's purpose is, and Locke will look to Jack to become that leader, the hints are there that Jack's views are changing when he mentioned that maybe the island wants Ben to die and it's correcting mistakes.

Jack the new leader? hmm... very interesting...

I'm still convinced that Richard and the others were the original crew of the Black Rock. I also think that as guardian's of the Island they were assigned to keep it pure and secluded and Dharma threatened that. I do like the idea that this might be the Island setting up to appoint new guardian's as the others are quite old and the crew of Oceanic 6 will end up as the next others.

Imo Richard is separate from the rest of the Others. He's never aged, and it seems the rest of them do. I guess I mean he's really part of the island, or connected to it more strongly than any of the others. After that, I've given up on trying to speculate with this show.

I did like in the last episode younger Ben chastising Widmore for doing the same things Ben ended up doing.

I like this idea too, but who else besides Richard can be an original crewmember of the Black Rock? Possibly Jacob. Can't be Widmore, as he ages on the island. Who else?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned what was said to Frank Lapidus (pilot) when he returned to the newest plane crash survivors. "What lies in the shadow of the statue?". Some sort of code I suppose?

Who are these people? It seems they're not innocent survivors. And what is in that case they are fiddling with?

I think they might be Widmore's people planted on the plane but then again why wouldn't he get on the plane himself?
Also wondering what's in the box they were trying to open and back to the old question as to why Ben couldn't kill Widmore.

Could be Widemore, constantly leaving the Island might cause him to age.

True, but Richard has been leaving the island as well, maybe not constantly but he's visited young Locke, recruited Juliet, etc.

To me, it wasn't the others who decided to exile Widmore, it was the monster on the Island who is a conduit to the Island itself. Once he's banished he probably can't return, or the minute that he sets foot on the Island, the monster will rip him apart.

I would assume that if Ben had been judged guilty by the monster he would have been tossed off of the Island.

Richard is the lynch pin to the Island, or another guardian, it explains why he never ages. But to me this whole series might be about who will replace Richard and its down to Ben or Locke. It certainly explains why the Island healed Ben when he had a hole in him, and gave Locke his legs back. This is a competition between the two where they actually have to work together.

I'm also betting that the members of Oceanic 6 if they survive the Ben slaughter will choose to stay on the Island as the new version of the others under the leadership of either Ben or Locke.

Yes but Richard did that in the best interests of the island. Whitemore went off the island to have Penny. Ben probably left the island when Alex was killed, because he acted in the best interests of himself, not the island and knew his time was coming to be judged. (He was probably in a bit of trouble before, as evident by the tumor.) By moving and saving the island from Whitemore coming back (Whitemore would be coming back with force, and the island probably didn't want to risk war, i.e. monster vs nukes) Ben was given a chance to leave rather then be judged. But, the Oceanic 8 left, Ben saw an opportunity to redeem himself by bringing them back, and he is hoping that the island will judge him and see that he did redeem himself and let him stay.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the Oceanic 6 along with Locke and friends become The Others when they catch up to present time where Lepidus and the other crash survivors are. They aren't there yet technically, maybe that's why Christian said there is a long journey ahead for Sun if she wants to find Jin. It's interesting to think about.

The producers have always said that Jack is the main character on the show so him becoming the leader makes sense.

What lies in the shadow of the statue is interesting. One of the biggest influences on the creators is The Stand by Stephen King. For those of you have read it, think Trashcan Man and what he does at the end of the book........
