Is my food still safe after the 'best before' date?
There use to be a bunch of threads asking whether something is safe to eat. Didn't know to stick this as a new thread, or put it in one of the older ones

If my stuff is close to the best before date, I chuck it.
Cutting mold off cheese and reusing it - crazy. Seriously though, who buys blocks of cheese any more. The shredded is now only marginally more expensive.

Maybe it's an Asian thing, but have you people hear of the "1000 year old eggs" (preserved eggs) that we eat. My grandparents love to put it in things like Congee.

And pastry. Watching somebody who wasn't expecting the bitterness of a thousand year egg yolk is quite funny in a totally schadenfreude way.

If you don't mind the taste of stale then you're alright. However, my cousin-in-law who works at Hostess gave me a couple of huge collector tins that were still full of Doritos. He mentioned that I would be better off just throwing the chips out. I did, but I was curious and opened the chips first. Darn near passed out from the smell. Whoooooowheeeee! That was some nasty fermentation going on in those bags.

Some more exciting news for this thread... a canned chicken will last 50 years. We have one of these ourselves that has been passed down from generation to generation from my grandparents.

There is absolutely no way that I would drink milk that was one week past its expiry date. That stuff wouldn't even get close to my lips.
There is nothing worse than sucking back sour milk!!! echhhhh!

When I worked for Frito-Lay, we always used to keep the "expired" chips... haha, they expire every Tuesday, and Wednesday would be chip bonanza. I would not eat really old ones though...
I don't use expired stuff like dressings, sauces, etc. No way. Bleh.

I once roomed with a older Chinese guy. One day I was cleaning out the fridge when I found some salad dressings that were over two years past their expiry dates, so I threw them out. Turns out they were the Chinese guy's. He got extremely mad at me. Me and the owner of the basement suite had to explain to him the concept of expiry dates.

yeah, my buddys a rep for a local pop company and he knows a rep for a local chip company. He gets a bunch of 'expired' chips. But when I go over and dig through the box, theyre like 3 months past the date... I ate a bag once, and didn't die. But as a general rule, I don't touch anythin past the sell by or expire date

Depends on how cold you keep your refridgerator and if you don't spend a lot of time with the door open looking at it.
