The OP does seem kind of torn on the affair. He's happy he was fired, it's a great thing and all that, but he's pissed off and wants to take people with him. Which way is it?
If he really is happy he should be thinking "thanks for kicking me out, onward and upward for me from here on out", not "I'm so happy I'm going to do what I can to mess with as many people as possible to get even".
|
It doesn't? Then might I advise taking your sarcasm detector into the shop? Perhaps you could get them to look at the spot where it didn't active on, "You should burn the place down."
FYI, I still think he should drag them down with him. It's logical.

I'm not a lawyer or anything, it just might be worth it to file with EI and tell them your side of the story.
|
Doesn't have to be illegal. A fundamental breach of trust. Lying. Hookers and blow in the store. (okay maybe that is not so legal but I just wanted to say it)
Keeping in mind the minimal damages and total pain in the ass of pursuing a claim, it does sound like he was fired without "cause". So what? Meaning, the hassle and effort to actually sue may not be worth the while. However, it is pretty easy to go to small claims, where this would be covered and you can pretend to be a lawyer. Also, go to the law school at the uni and get a student to help you evaluate your case and provide options. Keep in mind a large drug store chain would have to hire a lawyer, or at least an articling student. They would/should be more willing to just "flip" him some cash to go away as it costs the same.
And Flip you may run into a seriously hot law student. Karma has a funny ways of keeping things even.

Aye, I thought "burn the place down" was a medafour. I'll take the sarcasm detector into the shop tomorrow. The warning light has been blinking for a while.
But that second line has me confused again. Do you really think the logical thing to do is drag them down with him?

Not to be a dink to you Puxlut, but this has to be one of the funniest things I've seen on here. How can anyone translate being respected on an anonymous hockey messageboard to being a valuable employee? ha ha... I'm not sure if that's entirely what you meant, but it did strike me as a funny leap of logic. Further, are you sure Flip is respected? Not saying he isn't, but isn't that an entirely subjective position?
Anyway, good on you Flip... if you're glad you got fired, then I'm glad for you. Sometimes we need that push to do what we ought to have done long before. Good luck!

Ahahahahahah......you got $hitcanned!
Ah well, it happens. I had a very similar situation, I had a part time job on top of my regular full-time job and school and they canned me too. I almost never worked there, like a shift or two every 4 months, but I stayed 'employed' for the perks and eventually they realized I was just mooching.
That and the new head honcho was a real ball-busting hag.

I was just arguing KTrain's point that he ruined his chances of ever landing a job from anyone on CP because of the post he made. I guess I didn't really get my point across well (and you're not being a dink )
Titan: I don't think he he has a case for a civil suit. I was just hoping for him to ride the EI gravy train for the playoffs!

If you said in the interview you were good at "working under pressure" you better have had an example to back that up and you better provide a summary of that example to your references. It just makes things smooth.

Prep? That's just cheating then. Not real references? The whole process of references is a sham.

My mistake Puxlut... after I posted, I realized you were speaking about the CP community specifically and one's 'reputation' on it. I think you were clear, I was just out of it!

I don't know that that constitutes cheating. You're not asking the referee to lie for you. You're asking them to tailor their reference to what the prospective employer might be looking for... it doesn't mean the referee has to comply or be dishonest.
Further, if you're asking for a reference letter, I think it's incumbent upon you to provide the referee with as much information about the new job as possible, including what things they might be looking for. This can be especially helpful if your referee doesn't know that field or employer. What the referee chooses to do with your "directions" is up to them.

I am so happy that I no longer work there. Now looking into getting a job as a research ast. at the U of C during the summer.
Hung out with a fellow employee and told her to thank the boss. They did me a favour and I'd much prefer having a good relationship despite the lack of professionalism when they fired me.

Take them down. The last guy that fired me filed for bankruptcy 6 months later and had to sell his house and company. Muahaha.

So, getting fired is like a regular thing for you?

Actually no. He was the only guy who has fired me, but also happened to be the last.

I lucked out - guy I knew from a previous job was leaving his position and told me that I would be perfect for it, and he would be comfortable with me taking it over.
Easy interview after a reference from the current person in that position.
