VISTA - Basic Video Mode?

My monitor has faint vertical lines all the way across the screen.

There was a message that Vista basic video mode was running, because another program was using the proper video mode. Is this what is causing the vertical lines? How do I fix it? This is a brand new acer computer with an LG Flatron L206WU monitor. NVIDIA.

Have you checked the Nvidia site to see if there is an updated driver for your computer?

Does the video card show up correctly in the Device Manager?
(<Start>, highlight "Computer" and right click. Select "Properties", then "Hardware", then "Device Manager.")

Thanks. I found Device Manager, but not sure what I should be looking for.

I don't know about your monitor but when I installed the software for my UPS, it downgraded my Vista to basic so I had to uninstall it and went on line to find the Vista compliant software. I don't know if something like this has happened to you, but have you recently installed any new software?
