Skoglund explained that since the maid is already dressed in skimpy clothes and high heels, getting down on her hands and knees to clean the toilet would cross the line into degrading territory.

Oh, that's rich.

why does it even matter WHY people have a maid service? i have no problem cleaning my own place, i did it for years up until moving in here!! does that make me lazy?? NO it just gives me more time to get some extra work done at the office or whatever the HELL i feel like doing.
the point of this thread was to ask if anyone has a maid service and if so how much etc...not so some people can call other people lazy especially when you don't KNOW ME or my lifestyle thus not having a valid reason to judge me or anyone else on here that has a maid service.
so, just accept that some of us would prefer the "big clean" be done by someone else while we spend our time doing other things deemed more constructive to us.
and if you were paying attention, you would see that some of us don't pay $240 per month for a maid service, and even if we are ITS OUR MONEY TO SPEND.

To reiterate pretty much everything evilcougar & justanotherguy has stated, if someone has the disposable income & wants to hire a cleaning service then who the f cares - seriously. It doesn`t matter if people have the time to do the cleaning or not, it`s their call & to have someone call them lazy for it... give me a break.
I work 40hrs a week & quite honestly have tons o time to do the cleaning, but I don`t want to. I would much rather spend my time walking my dogs, hanging out with my friends or spend some quality time on CP.
I also recommend CleanFreaks. They do a great job & cheap...

If no one has mentioned it yet, there's always the 'Dust Bunnies' service here in Calgary.
Just saying.
EDIT: I see Dion has posted something similar, but yeah, we have that sorta thing here too. Topless even.

I've been contemplating the idea of getting my wife a year of maid service for her birthday. I hate cleaning, and she doesn't mind it but definitely has better stuff to do with her time. Although I'd be a little worried that she would construe that as it being more about me trying to get out of doing housework than about preventing her from doing it.

Isn't that part of it? Really?
Get her the service, but get her a piece of jewelery with it. That way you just look good and she won't question your motives, whether they are pure or not.

That is a very thoughtful gift but don't do it for a birthday. If you can afford it just do it because you care. Then get something else for her birthday.

I larfed too. Who knew that such a simple question would launch such empassioned philosophical debate about relative moral fibres of those who scrub their own commode and those who prefer to pay someone else to do it?
If only I'd had the forethought to title the thread: "Am I a worthless human being on par with fathers who leave their infant children locked up in the car outside a casino to freeze for six hours for wanting to pay another person money to clean my house for me?"

Hell, there is a lot of things I would pay people $60 to do.
Cleaning up after me is just one of them!

evilcougar is right.
What is your free time worth?
I once retained the services of Sweeping Beauties. They cleaned my apartment in bikinis - this was wasted on me, as I was at work when they cleaned my home. This was before web-cams.

I wanted to start a maid service that utilized trained bears. You can pay em in food, they look cute with a broom and they can lift couches with one arm.
Unfortunatly they kept eating the clients.
My next concept is called cougar cleaning . . .

Uh-oh... I smell a domestic brewing!
edit: to the winner, I offer back the overhead cargo container we've bought and sold to eachother (twice).

I wait with baited breath to see if Zara's thread will be re-opened. I'm kinda shocked that some noob with an attitude (anyone figure which banned poster he is yet?) managed to get that thread locked.
As for the cargo container, I thought it'd be funny if we just kept pawning it off on each other every couple of years. Oh well, so much for that.
