Default Legalized Rape in Afghanistan

Afghanistan's President, Hamid Karzai, has signed a law which "legalises" rape, women's groups and the United Nations warn. Critics claim the president helped rush the bill through parliament in a bid to appease Islamic fundamentalists ahead of elections in August.
In a massive blow for women's rights, the new Shia Family Law negates the need for sexual consent between married couples, tacitly approves child marriage and restricts a woman's right to leave the home, according to UN papers seen by The Independent.

New law

Absolutely revolting. How much worse would that place be if there weren't NATO troops on every street corner. I can't even imagine the horrors that go on outside the relative modernity and safety of the cities.

It is revolting, but I can only imagine the horrors women go through in that country every single day. I don't think it will ever change.

Do they mandate the use of lube, or is Allah against that too?

"The most controversial parts of the law deal explicitly with sexual relations. Article 132 requires women to obey their husband's sexual demands and stipulates that a man can expect to have sex with his wife at least "once every four nights" when travelling, unless they are ill. The law also gives men preferential inheritance rights, easier access to divorce, and priority in court."

The article doesn't give a direct quotation of the law(translated to English). Above is the most specific the article gets concerning the content of the law. It doesn't sound good for women but, I'm not sure it actually sanctions rape.

Women seriously need to look at taking law into their own hands, why don't they pick it up and rape some guys like the amazon chicks. Anyway hearing about this legalization is insane, society somewhere moving backwards.

HUH? Give your head a shake.

Try running it past your wife.

Funny, I don't see the words CONSENT or CONSENTUAL in there.

I tried. Didn't go over very well. I can't say for sure, but I think derisive laughter (and angry eyes) mean it's a "no".

Couch looks comfy though.

It doesn't sanction rape but it is a lot more sensational to phrase it like that.

The law is obviously stupid and not great for women but "legalized rape" is a pretty misleading phrase and really an outright lie.

Really, hmmm. Let's see.

The women must "obey" sexual "demands" and there is no need for "consent".

Only valid reason for her not obeying his demands for sex is illness.

What about the nights she just doesn't plain "feel like it"?
With this law he is within his rights to take (rape) what is "legally" his.
