I select new episodes, but because the guide is not accurate, the PVR picks up some other times the show is on.

Similar things happen with Bell too, but not as often as Shaw.
On Sunday, I had a timer set to record The Unit. The recording was labelled as The Unit, but when I went to watch it, the PVR had recorded some other legal show like Cold Case or whatever.
Another example is my recording of Off the Record. Selecting 'New Episodes" gets the real new episodes at 4:00pm, but also gets the same episode later that night.

I assume you PVR'd the Unit on the eariler American CBS feed? The entire lineup on Sunday was delayed by College Hoops.
I wanted to watch the Amazing Race at 6:00, but it didn't start until 6:45 or so. Everything was askew that night on CBS.

I would never install an ugly plastic dish to my house.
No matter how much "better" it was.

If you get it installed in the right stop you never even notice it, but to each his own.

Neither would I. Fortunately I have never heard of plastic satellite dishes, so no worries here.
Just curious, what makes it ugly? Or uglier than say a chimney, or a gas meter, or a garden hose loop, or a rain barrel? It's just I know people who can't get them in their condo because somebody on the board decided they were ugly- and I just don't get that.

Dont want to read all the opinions, my personal experience with Bell is terrible Customer service but for the amount I actually need them I don't care. The HD PVR (9242) is fantastic and I love it and from what I have heard it kicks ass compared to others out there.
I was not sure what simsubbing was - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simultaneous_substitution
Even after reading that I'm not sure how that affects me I have not noticed anything, but I rarely watch anything live... I PVR almost everything and watch it a day or two later. Hockey I'll always watch that night but I often start the game about 45-55 minutes in so I can skip comercials and intermissions and catch up with live tv right near the end of the game.

With Shaw, we do as well, and really, it isn't about the commercials (other than during the Super Bowl), it's about the way CTV and Global hack the broadcasts when simsubbing comes into play, as in cut off endings, starts of programs that don't start on time, awful HD or no HD and DD 2.0 instead of DD 5.1.
Basically the Canadian networks can create quite a mess of the show if the simsubbing isn't handled properly and I've seen this happen way too much for my liking. This is why I'm with Shaw and would never sub to Bell again. I pay to watch the whole show, the way it is presented, not miss parts of it or have bad HD or no HD and no true surround sound because Global or CTV can't get their act together.

I would say I watch a lot more TV than the average person and I have never had a show cut off due to this. Maybe I don't watch the shows that are effected by this but I can honestly never say I have had a show cut off like you say.

Well, it's been a while since I've had Bell, but it used to happen all the time.
When it comes to HD channels, well...see the list of issues here:
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=58228
Not to mention something as simple as previews of next weeks episode. CTV and Global are always pimping some other show instead of showing previews of next week, that I get to see every single time with Shaw.
But cheers Hoot. I knew you would come to BEV's defense.

So because I shared my personal experience like you did I am coming to BEV's defense? It's not like I was saying it never happens, I just said I don't notice it or at least don't notice it enough to make the switch.
IMO there are bigger things to worry about then this. If I miss previews for next week, I'll see it anyways next week. I'm too busy skipping through the commercials to really care I guess.

Well, you ALWAYS come to BEV's defense. That's why I said what I said.
Of course there are bigger things, but we aren't talking about other things. Not sure why people always say this. We are talking about what we are talking about.
Sorry...when it comes to simsubs, BEV sucks.

Yes, some people defend Bell, but keep in mind it's not really a secret about your hate for Bell.
Bell has been a LOT better lately about not fataing up simsubs. So the issue of shows being cut off is pretty much non-existant.
And like Hoot I pretty much PVR any of my network TV shows, so it's really only during the NFL season that I notice them.

ALWAYS, as in how you ALWAYS come to Shaws rescue or bash Bell? Ahhh I gotcha.

I have Bell with their HD package (all channels minus the movie channels) and I really like them. The only thing I don't like is that you can, at times have audio drop outs and out of sync audio. I think this is the receiver however. For example, I watched an episode of Lost and the audio was ever so slightly out of sync. I then watched the same episode on my PS3 via PS3 Media Browser (720P streamed and transcoded from my Mac) and there were no audio issues.
My only other complaint would be the one that people have listed already; simsubbing. I've noticed on many occassions when this happens the audio and video quality suffers. This can be seen when Global simsubs FOX broadcasts of 24.

Of course. Never said I didn't, although not really defending Shaw here, just saying that I don't have to deal with simsubs with Shaw. The friggen' audio drop outs are starting to get on my nerves though. Not enough that I would want to deal with simsubs on Bell, but close...

Really? I can't watch EAHD at all anymore because of the dropouts. Missed their Bond marathon. I recorded Family Guy on the West coast Fox feed Sunday and I had at least 25 dropouts over 30 minutes.
As much as I hate simsubbing, I can handle a somewhat lesser video image and maybe no 5.1 sound for the plus of actually hearing the show. Plus there's not much in primetime that I watch that actually needs 5.1 if CTV or Global screws up.
Plus I think it's a shame the CRTC is ignoring complains on simsubbing. I remember I complained to them before I even knew what the term was...
