An albatross hole in one - that is a definite rarity!
Congrats!

Congrats!!
I've had one too, I think I was about 16 or 17, so it was nice in terms of buying "drinks" after for everyone.
Mine was kind of a cool story if you want to hear it... the 7th hole was a par 5, and from about 160 yards out I hit my 3rd shot onto the green. I got up there and did the same as you - looking in bunkers, behind the green, etc. Finally found my ball in the hole! So I eagled that par 5 for my first eagle ever on a pretty lucky shot.
Then the 8th hole was a 115 yard par 3 and I got a hole-in-one. So two eagles in a row!! It was pretty awesome.

Nice, I've been golfing for a lot of years but have never really been close. I've had a few shots withing a foot of the hole and the that, but never anything off the pin or where it looked like it lipped out. One time at mens night in Sylvan I was within about 9 inches and I didn't enter the deuce pot that night for the first time all year and would have won $350 since it had a good carry over from two previous weeks. So if I'd had a hole in one, I would have been out like $500 in drink tabs or worse...but for 2 I would have made money.
In fact, I've never even had a fricken eagle of any type. In fact I think I've been on par 5's in 2 like 20 times and 3 jacked it every time. What can I say, I suck at golf.

I was golfing in Fairmont and I shot a short par 3 (~120 yards) about 6" from the hole. Closest I ever came to a hole in one. Congrats.

BTW... where were you golfing? What with the 10cm snow warning we have for today and tomorrow, I'm assuming this was not in Calgary!

This winter has broken my spirit. I've officially had enough winter to last me for a few years. I'd like to move somewhere with a better climate, but to remain in Canada. Van sounds nice, but after living two winters in Rome, last thing I want is a winter that constantly pisses rain and is cloudy and gray. At least in Crapgary we can skate and ski on our precipitation.
I wish Canada adopted Turks and Caicos when they came begging for a parental unit. I think I could handle living there for a couple years.

Any chance your buddy put it in the hole? Maybe he was thirsty?

Victoria isn't too bad. During winter you get a couple grey days in a row but then it's followed by a couple of really bright and sunny days. Apparently this year has been the coldest in a long time and the coldest it got was -3. The only big problem with Vic is it's on a stupid island and it's a bitch to get off.

Congrats!
I've been in two different foursomes where a fellow golfer sank a hole in one. The first one was at McKenzie Meadows about 8 years ago and the guy hightailed it to the parking lot shortly after so as not to have to buy drinks. The second time was two years ago at Elbow Springs. That guy got us silly drunk.

I'm guessing the 4-some in front of you were pissed that you shot into them. Put the ball in the hole to fata with you.
But then, I wasn't there.

I saw a guy hit the ball 4 inches from the hole. He went to quickly tap it in but screwed up and hit the ball before he intended. The ball was now about a foot from the hole. Then he did an around the world and the ball was again about a foot from the hole. By this time he was mad and completely missed the hole on his third attempt and was about 6 feet away from the hole. His fourth attempt he wasn't really trying but made an awesome putt to put an end to the hole. Everybody was laughing but him.

I got mine on the 2nd hole at Fox Hollow last August, hit an easy 9 iron it took one big hop then went almost straight to the left and in the hole. I stood stunned for probably a good 30 or 40 seconds before I could understand it went in.
