Deals in Vegas
Hey all, I'm heading to Las Vegas on Sunday, and looking for any tips on cheap places to eat, gamble, see shows, shop, etc in Vegas. I looked through a bunch of old Vegas threads, and found some helpful advice, but am more specifically wondering if anyone knows good places, near the strip or downtown, preferably near the strip to: (1) gamble and get comped for doing so. Or places with player's cards that have discounts/deals for gambling when you sign up. (2) places with cheap drinks if you aren't gambling, on the strip (3) good, fairly inexpensive places to eat, and places with cheap breakfasts (all day if possible) (4) shopping - from reading thru previous threads, it seems like there are 3 places. I'd heard of Primm and the one south of the strip, but didn't know there was one north of the strip. Apparently the one north of the strip is the best one? Or is the one out of town the cheapest/best, even after the $15 shuttle? (5) shows - is there anywhere a guy can find discounted prices for shows? Thanks for any help, greatly appreciated!!!

I'm sorry that's all being put into one paragraph, I have no idea why the forum is doing that. I have tried breaking it into a list/paragraphs multiple times, but can't figure out what is going on?

Cheap places for breakfast - in the Excalibur there's a couple breakfast like places and a McDonalds.
Things don't get much cheaper than at the Imperial Palace (on the strip). For really cheap drink prices downtown is a better bet.

There's a bunch of booths on the strip for a company that sells same night tix for half off for shows. The selection varies each day, so look into that if you're wanting to save some money.
A lot of hotel casinos seem to be giving slot credits for checking in. I got $50 this past week, I saw a place near the Tropicana that was giving out $100.

Casino Royale on the strip has some of the cheapest gambling. They also have $1 Michelob beer and $1 Margaritas! Another decent place to get drunk and gamble cheaply is O'Sheas beside the Flamingo. They also have beer pong!
The hooters casino just off strip beside the tropicana also has pretty cheap gambling...and hooters girls as cocktail waitresses!
There are those 'Fat Tuesday' stands at a bunch of the casinos, that sell the huge 3 foot margaritas...now they're pretty pricey, but delicious. However, a little trick: What they typically offer you is $1 for an extra shot. You can get up to 5 extra shots @ $1 each. One of those Monster Yards with 5 extra shots and you'll be blotto by the end of it.
Downtown check out the golden gate for 99 cent shrimp cocktails (if you have one of their players club cards).
Most downtown casinos have really cheap drink specials and food specials as well!

If you're looking to get hammered for cheap, my advice:
Have a few drinks in the casino while playing penny slot. In any of the big casinos you will get free drinks. You can order two doubles at a time. As long as you tip the waitress a dollar a drink or more she will come back as often as your drink is empty.
Next, make friends with the guys who work the taxi lines outside the club. I got comped a free limo, and a free drink and entry into a club (big deal since cover at most clubs is like 30 bucks). We tipped the guy pretty good, but it was still much cheaper than actually paying.

Allegedly they aren't allowed to serve you doubles. Often they'll just not tell you and give you a single anyway. She hasn't updated this particular sight in a while, but I read that on Cocktail Doll's website: http://www.cocktaildoll.com/. I actually met her last time I was in Vegas, having read her site, I knew to look out for her when I was in NYNY. I tried to strike up conversation, but I'm really shy and it was awkward so she probably thought I'm a creep or a stalker.

Wild Bills is in the middle of the strip and dirt cheap. Also has poor impersonators to make you feel better about yourself.

Maybe I will see you there, I am going on Tuesday. Can't wait. I like playing "strip poker" at O'Sheas. It is a $1 blind $5 max bet with the poker tables right on the strip. you can sit there all day, make a little money and watch the girls, I mean people walk by.

There are some cheap eats at NYNY such as a Pizza joint, a deli, a hot dog stand etc. My wife and I like to eat at least one breakfast at The Rainforest Cafe at MGM Grand. It isn't cheap, but nothing too expensive either. Lunch and supper at Rainforest are a bit more expensive though.
If you want to try a margarita by the yard, I've found that Gonzalez Y Gonzalez in NYNY has a reasonably priced drink and it is pretty potent too. Some places will sell their Margarita by The Yards for more with hardly any alchohol and charge you tonnes to have more alcholol in them.

No friggin deals in Vegas the weekend I am going (May long). I usually stay at the Mandalay Bay ($100 bucks a night or so) but they friggin want $299 a night on Saturday. I ended up staying at the MGM Grand ($140 on Friday, $150 on Saturday, and $80 on Sunday). I figured there would be some deals given the economy, I was mistaken.

this lady is not right on about tipping .... she is a bit on the greedy side when it comes to it ... She puts 20 drinks at a time usually and says people should tip a dollar a drink ... if she does 4 rounds in an hour which sounds pretty easy thats 80 bucks an hour.... now i dont mind tipping and am not cheap but im not gonna tip a waitress a dollar everytime she brings me 4 ounces of diet pepsi.... she says if your high roller you should tip 5 bucks a drink ..... i wonder how much the casinos actually pay these girls ( base pay)

It's not a long weekend in the US is it? I've been down to Vegas before on Canadian holidays and it didn't affect rates.

Usually I have a Mr. Pink attitude about tipping but in Vegas I tip a $1 for every drink (alcohol, water, whatever). I believe she has to share her tips with the bartender as well so she doesn't pocket all the money. Plus when you tip you get better service and more drinks.

I'm not sure if you have booked the hotel yet, but this link has a deal where you can stay at the MGM for $60 a night and you get a $30 credit for the slots. You actually book right thru the hotel...you just have to quote them the promo quote. I haven't checked the prices on the long weekend, but it might be worth checking out. Good luck!

My thoughts on tipping are that you tip based upon how much you want the server to return. Not too worried about seeing her again, then don't bother but if you want to get loaded make to tip her a buck or two at the very least.
