Toker's Carbon Neutral Challenge Grows
Kudos to Andrew for making a difference in the world. This is why Toker is one of my favourite players.

"I'm very proud that we've offset more than 4,200 tonnes of carbon emissions this season, which is like taking 840 cars off the road for a year," Ference said in a release. "But best of all, I'm hearing of more and more players in the dressing rooms talking about 'going green."'

Yup. Suzuki is a wackjob alright. I couldn't agree more.
That doesn't affect what I think of Ference and the good work he's going though. To denigrate Toker's good work because he has connections to Suzuki is kind of monolithic.

Elaborate on why he is a wackjob. I'm serious. I'm curious what it is about him that makes him a wackjob.

When this thread grows to 10 pages and I find myself wondering "how did this ball get rolling?" I'm going to try and remember this post. You've certainly pissed on the hornet nest with this one!

Mods ... please lock this thread. It was meant as a tip of the hat to Toker for doing something positive for the environment. Since it's clearly headed into a pi$$ing match between the two sides of the whole climate debate, I would prefer to see it locked.
Your call of course, but it wasn't my intent to start another enviro war thread.

Yes it appears people are too sensitive. I read this thread for the reason of writing an opinion, this is what message boards are for.

This is ground that has been gone over a number of times with very few discoveries and very much name calling.
A short sampling of the cole's notes version:
Dr. Suzuki is a hypocritical nutjob who pushes the idea cutting down on green house gasses yet burns jet fuel getting arouns, diesel fuel on his travelling side show, and owns a big expensive house in BC.
Ditto for Al Gore.
Besides there are plenty of scientists who question if Global warning is real, and even if it is real, there is no way humans are to blame. It could be sunspots. Weren't these same climatologists saying we were entering an ice age 30 years ago? Quacks!
And why do anything when places like China are just going to continue their polluting ways. Our pollution is a drop in the bucket compared to theirs, so why ruin our economy for nothing?
On top of that, look how cold out winter has been!
On the other side, you can mention the huge majority of climatologists if you want; point out that the most vocal opponents of climate change have been discredited or are funded by entities with much to lose if it was true; that climate change <> day by day weather; and so on.
The earth may already screwed, and by the time for you to get definitive proof one way or the other (which is hard, and why the biggest supercomputers in the world are being created in an attempt to model these situations) it will probably be too late to do anything regardless of the result.

I think its great that Ference is taking the initiative to get players involved in something like this, its a very cheap and easy way for them to do something environmentally friendly.
The one thing that I don't get though is how come only 420 players have contributed so far? I highly doubt there's a single player in the league who can't afford to fork over a couple hundred bucks... unless they think they're too cool to do something "green"...

wow ... that was a really good cole's notes. You've sucked the fun (and annoyance) right out of the thread!
Personally I'm never going to get on anybody's case for trying to make a difference. Perhaps the difference they are trying to make won't happen and perhaps it's nothing more than a waste of their time, but at least they are trying.

First, +1 to Ference. Doesn't matter how much he is contributing vs. how much he makes. Every dollar helps.
Second, Suzuki is a nutjob, and deserves as much attention as any other extremist zealot no matter what their cause - which is to say none whatsoever. The environmentalist cause surely must have much, much better spokespeople available than that clown.

That is off the grid and also has its own water well, too. And if you can come up with a hybrid plane, then great.

Not picking on you, but this quote is totally asinine. The average north american with all of our "clean energy" use 11X (yes, ELEVEN EFFING TIMES) the amount of energy than the Chinese. Maybe we should de-louse our own closet before we go point fingers at the country that produces all my audio cable and teen pron?

I like Ferrence a lot but some of his views are a bit too granola-ish. Isn't he big into that anti capitalism Adbusters stuff? And his training methods were a bit strange (jumping around on rocks in Canmore??).
I did however like the fact that he spoke up against the union during the lockout. Also the fact that he made the NHL as a little guy on pure determination and a good attitude is pretty cool.
