i dont think it is... as was pointed out by later commenters, basketball has failed miserably recently as well. in the 90's the qc had a popular team in the cba, but that died off in popularity and they recently had a semi pro team that drew just a couple hundred people a game.

Basketball died off mostly because the entire league went under. I would say there are more basketball fans in the QC than hockey fans. The fact that the Riverhawks failed in their amateurish attempt at basketball doesn't really address the sport's support here.

though i think the ignorance of the community is displayed in the very first comment...
first the person doesn't realize that qc doesn't pay the players salaries and salaries have zero effect on the local owners.
secondly he claims to know what the guys are getting paid because he knows a player. sure he does. if he knew a player than i am sure he would realize eriksson is making well over a million dollars to play down here this year. sure a lot of the guys have fairly average salaries that are under 6 figures. but many of the players make quite the coin.

I'm really disappointed the community never warmed to the Flames and there seems to be such a backlash against it.

QC will be better off because there will now be more open nights and more concerts and comedians can be brought in?
Was QC turning away a lot of business because there was a Flames game scheduled?
And another comment wants to turn QC into an Ultimate Fighting hotspot?

yeah, at least you guys are finally getting a glimpse into what we are up against here!!!
certainly if they do gain 20-30 weekend dates, they will be able to offer more concerts, but the thing people don't think about is that as a lower tier market, most of the big name acts we get actually come during the week. its a nice tradeoff as we can still sell the show out on a weeknight as we dont get those big acts that often, and the acts can still make a decent amount during the week and still get to chicago or somewhere else to make the big bucks at the bigger venues.

The Quad City area is home to one of the best MMA training gyms in the world, it's not that big of a stretch to think about it as a 'hotspot.'
