So Ben wasn't born on the Island, he was reborn on the island.

I've been thinking about this for a while today with young ben getting shot.
I think A) he's not dead B) Sayid is probably reponsible for Ben Linus becoming the cold pragmatic guy that he is today. This was a kid who wanted to get away from his abusive father, was terrified and desparate, threw his trust into Sayid and got shot. It wouldn't surprise me if the whole chain of events with Ben slaughtering the darma initiative was triggered by Sayid's returning to his past and then being further seduced by the others.
And it wouldn't surprise me if the current future Ben Linus has always known that Sayid tried to kill him.

I was thinking this as well. This means that Ben purposely put Sayid on the island even though he knew that Sayid was going to shoot him. This makes Ben pretty intense. Then again this is the same Ben who refused to give in to his lies after several beatings in the hatch.
In general, you're right this could explain the transformation from nerdy kid to manipulative just don't give a @#@ adult ben.

Yeah it's one vicious circle of Lost irony. Sayid was trying to prevent the evil Ben from happening, so he shot him, and by doing that he actually caused it, which he was meant to do all along.

Something irrelevant to the episode crossed my mind. It seems whoever is on the island in 1977 and was ACTUALLY on that island in that time...translates into them not being able to be there. Faraday has disappeared with no explanation, Charlotte is a child at the camp so she disappeared. Ben isn't there because he as a child is there. Which has made me wonder why isn't Sun there? I think she is one of the kids in the Dharma camp.

I think you almost got it.
Faraday was on the island in '74 and sometime after at the Orchid station while it was under construction. Sawyer said Faraday had some interesting theories but was now 'gone' probably as in gone crazy.
And Sun would be Dr. Pierre Chang's kid as seen in Season 5 Episode 1 Scene 1 as a baby. Count it.

I actually believe that the baby is Miles. According to a Dharma video at Comic-Con 2008, there was a quote of Pierre Chang saying "Dammit Lara, just take him outside, please." in relation to a crying baby in the background, thereby making the baby male. Also, when looking at who was getting nosebleeds when they were jumping times, Miles was one of the earliest to start and Faraday said that the nosebleeds were related to time spent on the island.

That would make sense considering we've met Sun's parents. She looks Korean while Chang doesn't.

What about baby Ethan? Anything significant with him being born in that time frame?

He becomes on of the others, even though he is born into the Dharma initiative. Supposedly the Dharma initiative was all executed, apparently they chose to spare him. Could be more evidence towards what "good people" are.

Forgot about that.
I guess the theory of a person not being able to occupy the same time as themselves on island would still stand IF Miles was born after 1977. It will be interesting to see what happens when Miles is born when the adult Miles is in that timeline.

I don't think Sun made it back to the island becaue she could not replicate her condition....she was pregnant when she crashed......if you recall Jack was told he had to replicate the conditions of the original crash, ie: Jack wes traveling with a body.

I don't think she was pregnant during either crash. Pretty sure she got pregnant on the island.

Didn't they figure out when she got pregnant and that's how they figured out that Jin was the father instead of the sleazeball she had the affair with?

I seem to recall Juliet telling her that she got pregnant on the island, meaning Jin was the father.

She was with Jin during the Oceanic crash, so there was no way for her to re-create the conditions of the original crash.
Same goes for Locke, as he wasn't dead during the original crash, but during the re-creation, well, he was.

My guess, they'll kill him off before that, assuming he already isn't dead.
