The Obama administration for the first time is weighing in on a Recording Industry Association of America file sharing lawsuit and is supporting hefty awards of as much as $150,000 per purloined music track.
Why?

Two top lawyers in President Barack Obama's Justice Department are former RIAA lawyers: Donald Verrilli Jr. is the associate deputy attorney general who brought down Grokster and fought to prevent a retrial in the Jammie Thomas case. Then there's the No. 2 in the DOJ, Tom Perrilli. As Verrilli's former boss, Perrilli argued in 2002 that internet service providers should release customer information to the RIAA even without a court subpoena.
Its all about who you hire, and which lobby groups have control over you.
Civil rights groups are mad the Obama is claiming the same "state secrets" stuff that they hated from Bush.
I don't blame 'em. It is interesting that once he became privy to intelligence briefings, he changed his tune on some of this stuff. Makes me think the US gov't is sitting on either very juicy or very damaging information about the global terror network and/or about themselves.
I think Alex Jones is actually certifiably crazy. It's kind of sad.
There is some information in the movie that is interesting and other information that is crazy for sure. You can't dismiss everything that is presented and it clearly points out broken promises by Obama that I needed reminding on....
Have to say guys....I don't think Bush had it this bad until the last 2 years of his second term.
That article is mostly devoted to his press conference the other night, and then media people giving their opinions on Obama's performance in that press conference, and in the media in general.
It's interesting, but I'm not sure it is what this thread has been talking about. I was kind of hoping they'd get away from this navel-gazing, but I guess not.
Then again, I read about things like this where it does seem like things are getting changed for the better.

A month after the 9/11 attacks, a directive from then-Attorney General John Ashcroft urged agencies to carefully consider all possible grounds for withholding information before making disclosures, and promised the Justice Department's backing for any decision to withhold with a plausible legal basis. On Thursday, new Attorney General Eric Holder reversed that order, instructing executive branch officials that "an agency should not withhold information simply because it may do so legally." The new guidelines could potentially affect a slew of pending cases concerning secretive copyright treaties, warrantless wiretapping, and military interrogation practices.
The new FOIA guidelines are meant to implement the executive order issued by President Obama on his first full day in office, enjoining officials to adopt a presumption of transparency. "In the face of doubt," that order insisted, "openness prevails."

Hmm. I never really cared one way or another about Obama until yesterday night... I went to watch my recently PVR'd version of Amazing Race but nooooo its some lame Obama Interview that preempted the show. Now I need to go download it. Grrrr.
On Thursday, March 19, 2009, at an anti-war rally held in Berkeley, Cindy Sheehan came up with the quote of the day which epitomizes the current situation: "Obama is just another war monger."
