I'd say The Simpsons is around the same funniness level as Larry, as in, not very.

On a side note of comedians coming to town, I just saw on his website that Louis CK is FINALLY coming out this way, he's doing an extensive coast-to-coast tour. Dates aren't released yet, but he's supposed to be doing it this fall. Easily the funniest(and most unappreciated) comedian out there today. Everyone from Dane Cook to Carlos Mencia to Dennis Leary have reportedly stolen jokes from him, the dude's a comedy deity. I highly urge you all to see him. I'm considering going to both the Calgary and Edmonton shows.
EDIT: for those who dont know who he is, he's the guy from that "Everything's Amazing, Nobody's Happy" Youtube clip that's blown up this month.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on Louis CK, I'll definitely keep my eyes open. Not going to miss the chance to see him live.
Both of his HBO specials are incredible, worth checking out for anyone who is remotely interested.
Sainters, have you heard any of his guest spots on the Opie & Anthony Show? He'll stop by for 2 or 3 hours and just absolutely kills.

Ya I've heard some of em on Youtube or off his website a little, but unfortunately I have Sirius, not XM, and you're not able to buy the XM channels through Sirius in Canada like you can in the States, which really sucks. I heard the bit off O&A when he just laid into the director of the movie "Gap" for an hour straight, I had to pause it a couple times because I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.
Actually it was funny on Valentine's Day, because me and the girl were late for our reservations, and just as we finally pulled up to the restaurant, Sirius Rawdog had one of their "Stand-Up Sit Downs" hour shows just starting, and this time it was with Louis CK. When we went inside, I lied and said I left my wallet in the car, and just sat in the parking lot and listened to the interview for like 15mins before my girlfriend came out yelling at what the hell I was doing. Louis CK is a golden god, its absolutely ridiculous that guys like Dane Cook are starring in movies while most people dont even know who LCK is.

No it's not.
You can be funny as hell, but if you don't market yourself? You're just a farm for other people to get jokes.

I think he markets himself pretty well, or at least tries to. As a former Conan O'Brien writer, he makes appearances on that show quite frequently. He's also done Letterman I think 5 times, and Leno a couple times. As Kryzsky mentioned, he also just drops in on the Opie & Anthony show and hangs out, which gets him airtime. He came out with 2 different hour long specials, with 100% new material, in back-to-back years, which is really rare(and hard I'm sure). He's got his own website up where he frequently posts on and sometimes replies to people. And he posts his stand-up acts on Youtube, even his hour specials, which I'm sure alot of comedians wouldn't do. Youtube is reportedly how Ricky Gervais discovered him last year(he called LCK the funniest comedian in the U.S.), and flew him up to England to star in a movie with him("This Side of the Truth").
He's got a huge cult following, but for some reason he's never made it mainstream. I simply don't understand why he's not more popular. But in a way I almost prefer him this way, as I'm worried he'd lay off the gas pedal a bit if he got really popular. The last couple years he's been just absolutely in the zone.

There was also the short lived sitcom "Lucky Louie" on HBO, that got him a bit of exposure.
He's never hit the mainstream because people are stupid and lazy, comics like him and Bill Hicks were a bit too abrasive and real for the average monkey.

For the average monkey, I'm really digging Patton Oswalt lately.
His screen/TV stuff is pretty tame and wussy, but the stand-up is hilarious

Haha agreed. I saw him on Conan one night and couldn't believe how funny he is! And I've heard clips of his stand-up on Sirius Rawdog. I love his schtick, he just plays up the Sci-Fi dork role, like his bit about talking to George Lucas about the travesty that was the new Star Wars movies.
Another comedian I've discovered recently who I could see absolutely blowing up soon is Mike Birbiglia. I caught a bit of his about the MLB Baseball Awards on Rawdog(God bless that station), and I almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard.

Did you ever see that clip of him on The View, when before he came out, Barbara Walters tore his show a new one? That was so unprofessional, and LCK came out and handled it with such class. I love how Barbara Walters doesn't have a problem with shows like Sex And The City, which depict random sex, and cheating and whatnot. But when a show comes out that shows real-life situations, like fighting with your wife in bed about money, or about how marriage assassinates your sexual identity, it bothers her. Keep living with your head in the clouds there Barb, every marriage is like the end of a chick flick.

! As mentioned, he had a show Lucky Louis which was hilarious. It was quite crude but hilariously awesome. He is much funnier than the mainstream people.

For those of you going to LCK's show whenever he's here in the fall, we should all meet up beforehand and go for Cinnabuns.
