Default E-cigarettes

Tried a search and couldn't find anything so I hope this is'nt fata as I just heard about them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_cigarettes

A friend of mine let me try his and I think I'd like to switch to this method, as it seems there are many benefits. He had bought his from a kiosk in Sunridge mall, has anybody seen these for sale anywhere else in Calgary?

Never seen or heard of these before, what does they cost compared to buying a pack at 7-11? Seems like a good idea if it is cheap enough. I wonder if they would try and stop you from smoking at your desk.

My friend bought the starter pack for $40, and said the amount of use you get fom it is apparently the equivalent of 6 packs of smokes, or at least thats what it was advertised as. Plus he had apple flavour which was delicious! Way better tasting that tobacco

According to Wikipedia they're illegal in Hong Kong. Take that for what its worth.

Supposedly they were also profiled on "The Doctors" TV show and Oprah as "health trends", I'm trying to find that on youtube. But it is strange they're banned in hong kong, I didnt think ANYTHING was banned there!

Edit: Found the synopsis from the doctors, where they named it #9 on their top 10 health trends of 2009:

9. The Electronic Cigarette
If you are one of the millions of people addicted to smoking, there may be some hope in a possibly safer alternative. The electronic cigarette is a device that gives the impression of smoking, while not emitting the thousands of chemicals that can cause health problems like cancer. The only chemical you consume in using the electronic cigarette is nicotine, and water vapor replaces the harmful smoke that emanates from cigarettes.

“For some people, this may be a big help to get them to quit smoking,” Dr. Ordon says. “We don’t want to get people on nicotine; that’s not good, either [because it] constricts your blood vessels, but it’s a lot better than consuming all that tar and charcoal and carbon monoxide [that is in cigarettes].”

The product is currently available in England, but has not yet been FDA approved. The Doctors try the cigarette and cigar versions. They speak to 41-year-old Beverly, who has been a smoker for 15 years and wants to quit so she can raise her baby daughter. Beverly tries the electronic alternative for a few days and returns with rave reviews. “I am convinced it’s very good. It’s a great alternative,” she says. “It still gives you the action of smoking -- you inhale, you blow out -- so it’s not like a patch or chewing gum, which is something completely different. So I would, as a smoker, recommend it to smokers [who] are trying to give up. Most definitely.”

The Doctors do stress, however, that if it is approved, the electronic cigarette should only be used as an alternative to the real thing, because the nicotine in it can still be harmful to your health.

Hmmm, interesting. Between this and Champix (I know, could be risky from what I've read), there are some good options coming out to try to quit smoking. I'd love to get myself off the tobacoo but the prospects of going through that hell make it really hard.

I like the idea of them because (as noted in the_hound's quote) it involves the physical action of smoking. There seems to be something about the simple routine of drawing, lighting and holding a cigarette that contributes to the addiction.

Completley. Quitting smoking isn't just about breaking addiction, it's also about breaking a deeply ingrained habit. It really boils downt to a pretty big change in lifestyle that scares a lot of people.

I dont know what it was called but when I went to vegas for a bachelor party one of the guys had a cigarette replacement that you could use on the plane. Looked like the plastic tip you would find on those colt cigars only bigger. It wasnt electronic like this one but a smokeless replacment for people to use on planes. Anybody heard of these things? know what I'm talking about? I'll have to search the interweb to see if I can find a name or link.

I think you're thinking of the Nicorette inhaler. I have tried that but it does'nt feel like your actualy "pulling" anything from the inhaler. From my short experience with the E-cigarette, I found it 10x better than the inhaler, as you actually exhale vapor.

Thats probably it, didnt seem to do much for me I'm a very casual smoker but some of the hard core addicts loved it. Made the 1.5 hours they had to go without a smoke livable

I saw someone using this once when I was playing poker at Elbow. It seems they aren't banned in any social places either, though someone might mistake it for a real one across the room and tell you to get out. I was sitting beside him and am very sensitive to cigarette smoke and it didn't bug me at all. To be quite honest, I thought it was some sort of toy, maybe he was getting SOMETHING from it, but I didn't even imagine it was nicotine.

This would be big I imagine. I'm not a smoker but I will indulge in a small cigar a couple times per month. There's something about blowing out the smoke that I find very soothing. I've always said to myself that if I ever were a smoker that would be the thing that would keep me coming back.

I am quoting this because it is possibly the dirtiest reply I have seen in a while that is not in any way dirty. Maybe it is just me? Probably.

Carry on.

I know someone who swears by them. Find out where the ones you buy are made. The majority are all Chinese made.

I'm betting the Sunridge Kiosk ones are chinese sourced too. You can just look at the stock at dealextreme.com to see the variety out there coming from China.

www.smokefiftyone.com

This is the website of the distributor that owns the sunridge mall location, I also saw the isreal counterpart site which has the "Krave" disposable cigarettes that are also sold at the kiosk advertised....
