Are you making sure that one sound has finished playing before you start the next one? If two different tones play at the same time it will create a new sound that you can hear that will sound lower.

Thanks - turns out it was my computer that couldn't play them properly. I tried it on another computer and the pitch of those high ones sounded right. I couldn't hear the last few but I don't remember exactly where the cutoff was.
