I haven't noticed anybody "waiting" at all, honestly. This rush to judgement on Obama makes the war in Iraq look measured and responsible.

I'd say that his foreign policy shows a lot of promise as being a direct about face on the previous 8 years. That said, his dealings with China have probably been to hawkish, given the importance of Chimerica and he has flip-flopped around the Iraq issue.
His domestic policy has been just two shades above awful. The bailout is a disaster.

The story answers its own question:
Quote:
It is easy to see what Obama is going for here. He runs the country the way he ran for President, taking his message straight to the people, not letting it be filtered through Fox News or right-wing radio or anything else. Leno and "60 Minutes" and his inevitable next visit to Jon Stewart are his version of FDR's fireside chats, and he constantly reassures the country himself that we're going to come through this all right.
|
A huge part of what is going to turn things around is restoring confidence, and having a hugely popular commander in chief in America's living room reassuring people that work is being done and things are going to turn around is a good thing.
After 8 years of Bush trying to hide from direct press interaction, this is a welcome change.

Soo, do you guys have like, $50 riding on his failure or something?
Or are you just unable to let go of narrow, partisan thought?

We'll see. Actually, I'm not too partisan and I didn't care much for McCain, maybe I'm just free enough to not fall for Obama's often low populist appeal. The guy needs to be judged like everyone else. The apologists are just starting to look pathetic.

It's true, the apologists need to let up a bit, but they also have the problem that he's 2 months into a presidency and there are a bazillion people riding on his failure.
Why do people not want him to succeed?

We all get a probationary period of three months when we start a new job. I'm going to give a new POTUS at least that.

Seriously, after the job Bush did for the past 8 years, anyone who is not a complete moron would do a better job.
Obama has had more problems to deal with than any other president at the beginning of his term. FDR is close, but he didn't have two wars to deal with at the same time in addition to all the other problems.
When you are stretched thin as Obama is, mistakes will happen, hopefully none of them are catastropically bad, and America recovers from the damage that Bush inflicted.

That said, US politics is soooo 2008.

Considering the mess he inherited, I'm thinking he'll be cut a fair bit of slack.

Bush was the first president in the real "internet generation" and he is/was the most hated president ever. I do not consider that to be a coincidence.

That's kind of an interesting comment, actually. Do you mean that the internet may actually polarize debate, much as it does on message boards, where people hide behind their anonymity and abandon any effort at civil discourse and instead spend their time flaming people who feel differently from them?
You may be right--but if you are, we're all screwed--aren't we?
