See, I'd argue that this round showed just how close the English and Italian teams really are.

Chelsea squeaked one out against an injury depleted Juve by a single aggregate goal.

Arsenal got on the right side of the penalty shootout lottery against Roma.

Manchester United is probably the dominant team in Europe right now, no surprise they beat Inter... a team who according to Gazzetta della Sport, would be in fourth place this season if not for referee errors.

I see it differently:

Roma got on the wrong side of a terrible Arsenal side. Roma was out of gas after 45 minutes and the commentators had a running joke about Totti's diving anytime a player went anywhere near him which was pretty embarrassing.

Realistically, an in-form Arsenal squad should have obliterated that Roma team in Bayern-esque fashion. J. Baptista is an embarrassment to Brazilians everywhere, just brutal.

I'll give you the Juve comparison, but at the same time, Chelsea have also been playing like crap lately, but fair enough a healthy but out of form Chelsea versus a depleted Juve and it was still close.

Inter looked like they didnt understand that goals are required to be scored at some point, but they were playing a defensively sound Man. U, but despite the scoreline that was not a close game. Are the nets bigger in Italy? Because Ibrahimovic looked like he was aiming for something much bigger.
And I was hoping that Inter and Roma could actually do something. Oh well, dont have to worry about Italy in the CL anymore.

Roma is an extremely enigmatic team... I would hate to be a fan of theirs. They can come out totally world class one week, and get utterly humiliated by a relegation battler the next. I'd say they and Arsenal are very similar. I'll give you the comment on Totti, he's not an overly likeable player.

However, I was having a discussion on this. Do you think players dive more in CL because UEFA doesn't dole out post-game suspensions for diving like EPL and Serie A do?

I think Hiddink is the key for Chelsea. Simply because he got Drogba going again. That guy is an unstoppable monster when he wants to play. Having Essien back is what put them over the top too. Outstanding second game though, wrong result.

Inter really isn't a very good team. Like I said, they get a ridiculous amount of favorable ref calls. They often win games cause of PKs, offside goals, and lucky bounces. Whether its actual match fixing, unintentional referee influence, or a shiny horseshoe up their ass, Inter has racked up a lot of wins with a sob story attached to them. There's a reason I hated Ibrahimovic when he was with Juve... he's a big game choke. He demonstrated that again today.

About what? Did you watch the game? Roma did absolutely nothing in the second half except watch Totti flop around and Arsenal did nothing about it.

I'm not saying that Arsenal are that great a team because they really arent, but they had Roma at their mercy in the second half and they looked really disinterested.

He's not smoking anything actually. A full Arsenal squad would have included Fabergas and Adebayor.....I would happily replay the game when those two are fully healthy to see Roma get demolished.

Without Fabergas, Arsenal has ZERO mid field presence. Even with him, they still aren't all that world class.

Wow, imagine if Arshavin could have played in this match as well?

Almunia, Clichy, Gallas, Toure, Sagna, Denilson, Fabergas, Walcott, Arshavin, Van Persie, Adabayor

With Nasri and Eduardo off the bench?

Arsenal is a great team with there full midfield you forgot to mention the injury to Rosizcky he is arguallably the best player right now for the Czech Republic and the Czechs are not a bad international team.

Arsenal with a full squad are a competitive bunch they are just battling through bad injuries.

I am an Arsenal fan and I am proud of them making it ot the final 8. They outplayed Roma tonight and deserved the win.

GO ARSENAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on what I've read and/or seen in highlight packages, there is no way Arsenal outplayed anyone in that game.

Just a horrendous showing by both teams. Can't help but laugh at Julio Baptista, who had a chance to bury Arsenal in regular time and completely flubbed a great ball from Totti.

Obviously some people didn't watch the amazing italian feed on channel 65.

Arsenal had more ball possession, they had more pressure, they forced more corners out of it, they just couldn't finish. This has been there problem recently.

Arsenal will be contendors in the EPL when the injury bug leaves them

They are playing hurt and playing well enough to win. They played a pretty damn good road game.

No kidding. How do those 2 keep getting the easiest draws?

Whatever though, we've already beaten Chelsea twice this season, whats twice more?

This is starting to piss me off, this is the only hard draw.
Man U is going to manhandle Porto and Barca is going to walk all over Bayern, Villareal doesnt stand half a chance against a healthy Arsenal but Liverpool has to take on a resurging Chelsea?

I know money talks but did Arsenal and Man U bribe someone?
