So, I gave a 90-some year old woman the finger today, and I don't feel at all bad about it.

Of course, she got it for trying to merge onto Glenmore at 40, and nearly causing an accident in the process.

Memo to all CP posters with 90 year old grandmas who can't drive: CUT UP THEIR DRIVERS LICENCES!

She probably went home, called her daughter or son (DESS perhaps?) and told her how the world is going to "hell in a hand basket" because you were 'rude'.

That being said, you're my hero.

Your theory will be proven correct if we see a thread from DESS tomorrow calling for all speed limits to be dropped to 40.

Course, if that happened, grandma would just drive 20...

Why don't we just eliminate all Grandmothers?

I associate people so much with their avaters/sigs that when they change them I often don't notice for weeks.

When I see your avatar I think of a Harley riding tattooed guy. I have no idea if it's associated with anything.

The Iron Cross (the dot on top of the i) is often used in skate/metal/biker culture. That could be it. Really it is just a skate company. flip

I assure you in real life I am rather weak and lack any intimidation whatsoever.

Huh, I think of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross]

But that could be the fact I'm a History Major.

That'd be the same one, just the meaning adapted. Not sure why it is so prevalent in skate culture.

My guess? It was the Punk Movement's affinity with 'offensive' (ie Nazi 'ish') iconography that lead to its adoption within skate culture with self identifies with punk.

Probably because of nazi connotations and kids thinking its a good way to "rebel".

I'm glad I haven't asked anyone to rate my avatar or if they know where it is from and it's significance.

Now I'm just debating whether to generate a new thread on an kuro5hin article just due to the fact that it offers a bit of anthropological research into moderation of some major news/commentating systems (slashdot/4chan/Digg)

an excerpt:
Quote:
  • Eternal September presents web forums with an inability to avoid the dilemma that scaling creates for socialization.
  • Community and society, as forms of interaction, are not just different in scale but also different in kind.
  • Community doesn't scale, and society is difficult to enforce.
  • User registration and barriers to participation do not prevent community-destroying behavior.
  • Scale quickly outpaces moderators' ability to enforce socialization of new users.
  • Current forms of user moderation and trust ratings are vulnerable to gaming and attack.
