They already ended up on our planet. When they first arrived at Earth at the end of season 4.0, North America was clearly visible from orbit.
The first screenshot here shows this pretty nicely:

So, who was Bill Adama going to meet that would take only an hour out of his life?
Did a drunken Lee Adama run over Laura Roslin's family? Why is he chasing pigeons in his house (although, come to think of it, who wouldn't if you had a chance)?
I guess 2000 years in the future it's not impolite to eat sushi while talking on the phone. Interesting.
Some thoughts on the Daybreak episode from Number 1 fan "The Watcher" at the Chicago Tribune at this link:
http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune....reak.html#more
I agree with her interpretation that the episode last night is meant to fit with the two hours still to come, hence the otherwise strange vignettes from the past.
From the Strange But True department,
On March 17, there will be a "Battlestar" retrospective at the U.N. in New York and a panel discussion of how the show examined issues such as "human rights, children and armed conflict, terrorism, human rights and reconciliation and dialogue among civilizations and faith," according to Sci Fi.
Aside from some Battlestar cast reps, UN representatives on the panel are Radhika Coomaraswamy, special representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict; Craig Mokhiber, deputy director of the New York office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights; and Robert Orr, assistant secretary-general for policy planning, executive office of the Secretary-General.
The panel will be moderated by "Battlestar" fan Whoopi Goldberg.
The invitation-only panel will take place at 7 p.m. March 17 in the U.N.'s Economic and Social Council Chamber, three days before the Sci Fi show's series finale.
A preview of the TV Guide Battlestar cover story is at the link below. Interesting Tricia Helfer has refused to see an advance screening of the final episode in favour of watching it on TV like every other fan:

The way I see it, they can use Laura Roslin as a bullet catching human shield when they invade the Cylon colony. I mean she's walking dead anyways, she might as well make herself usefull.
Poor Baltar, he had a chance to totally redeem himself and he couldn't screw up the courage to cross that line.

I think its time to guess who the survivors are that start the cycle over.
I'm betting Starbuck, Hera, Lee Adama.
Everyone else dead.
Last scene we flash forward a few thousand years to a thriving colony. We zoom in on a lab, there are scientists hovering around a table. We look at the table and see a centurion, just as the scene fades to black the red light turns on

I can't wait for that show. Well the first two seasons, not the last two, they got slow and weird.

It does seem pretty obvious that almost everyone is going to die, doesn't it.
Love your idea for the centurion/cycle beginning anew ending.
My prediction for the last remaining survivors: Hera, Helo, Athena. It would be cool if Baltar and Caprica Six are the last two alive, though, but I get the feeling they're setting up Baltar for a final act of unselfish heroism that results in his death.
