So, any guesses on a plan B if the move to Abbotsford is turned down by the AHL?

Can you honestly say you would go to a Cancuks AHL Affiliate game if they were here in Calgary? HELL NO!!! I wouldnt anyway.

Is every person living in the Vancouver area a Canucks fan?
You don't think an AHL team might draw more in Canada, in hockey country?
You don't know any Canucks fans living in Calgary?

Toronto's two ahead of us in the rankings, 26th out of 29, averaging 3,595. (We're now at 3,029.)
Hamilton's in the middle of the pack, 15th, with an average of 4,569.
That's in a Toronto metropolitan area of nearly 6 million. Hamilton's population is over 600,000. For comparison, the QC area population is under 300,000.
I also think fans are going to get tired of always seeing the same teams two nights in a row. The first night is okay, but back to back gets boring even when it only happens occasionally. Every weekend? I'd say folks will tend to skip one of the two.

No guesses but theres a few citys that come to mind that would make better sense to me than Abbotsford.
Toledo, OH - population 300,000
Green Bay, WS - population 225,000
Fargo, ND - population 100,000+

If no other owner group or arena can get their act together by next season, I wonder if Calgary could take over operation of the QC Flames for a year and just keep them here until they find somewhere they like better.

This is basically what happened in Peoria. They are losing money, too, but the Blues stepped in and bought part of the team (half?) to stabilize them and keep them there.
I'm sure our owners and Calgary had that discussion, but Calgary must have said "no". I guess I can't blame them with as bad a job as our front office did.
I guess QC still may be a "plan B" if the AHL rejects Abbotsford, but its a long shot, and it may mean our 3rd whole new front office in 3 seasons.

From what I hear, Calgary hasn't totally shut the door on that option, Pioneer.
I'm not sure of the details of the situation in Peoria, but in QC, I don't think our ownership would have any part of it....

Toledo is committed to the ECHL for next season.
Green Bay already has a very successful USHL team.
Fargo is, well....Fargo!

I just wanted to say to the fans who paid for tickets and supported the team, and then to also become active members of the forum, I truly feel sorry your efforts didn't pay off and that you are losing your team. There's no way you can spin this to make it a good thing.
I hope the fans in the QC don't have hard feelings towards the parent team but if so, I certainly understand. It's disappointing as a Calgary fan to see the farm system lacking stability. I really believe they should have tried to make it work, for at least one more season at the minimum. I think it would have helped if they had won some games for you guys. I hope QC gets a new team and they do well for you.

There are many fans that put the blame only on Calgary. To be honest, I think Flames organization should share a large part of the blame. Here's an example that I used when talking about it recently:
I go into a car lot, find a car that looks nice, drive it and like it. Then, the salesman comes to me and says, "Oh, if I were you, I wouldn't buy a car from us." To me, having the head coach of a team come out, in the newspaper, and say, "We are not very good," has the exact same effect. If someone is a more casual fan, why would he or she want to go see a game when the coach says the team isn't good?
In my opinion, QCSV made many mistakes and mismanaged the team. Add that to the remarks made by Sutter, King, et al in the papers, and you have a recipe for destruction. Add in the fact that the team was, and is, just not a top tier team, and it becomes a ready made failure. For the last two years, the QC Flames have been a lower escholon team. They are five spots from the bottom right now. The fans that I have talked to have been pretty much in agreement, there is no upside to keeping Calgary's AHL team here.

ahahahahaha classic....
Abbottsford could support a team but putting anything resembling a Flames logo on the team would be a big mistake...they would be guaranteed a couple sellouts(Moose games).
I am a Vancouver Giants fan but now that I'm in Lethbridge I still go watch the Hurricanes play...and for the most part I cheer for them(except for Giant games of course).

Just heard on the Vancouver Global news that the AHL board of governors will be meeting on Tuesday to vote if Abbotsford is in or not. Sorry no link.

I seem to recall hearing the end of April being mentioned as the date of the vote, so Tuesday (April 28) would sound about right.

The meeting is this tuesday in Chicago. So KK and one of the abbotsford guys will be there to sway some votes.

abbotsford gets it
http://www.bclocalnews.com/fraser_va.../43887252.html
good that you guys know where your team will be, but i still think its a silly move. i know everyone always just says they are whiny babies, but the players i have talked to are effected by all the travel. and i would hate to see my teams prospects have that additional weight on them.
