Default How long can you keep a can of pop?

Okay. Here is the deal. Growing up I *LOVED* Sussex Ginger Ale, a golden ginger ale made only in the Maritimes.

Anyhow, I've been having a craving for my old favorite drink. And I found someone that is moving here to Ottawa from Halifax. He's got space in the Uhaul so he's willing to bring me up some. He wants to know how much to bring.

Can you keep cans of pop for a year? Or will they go flat? Let's say that I have 2 per week... that's about 100, so eight 12 packs. But I've never kept cans of pop that long so I don't know if they will still be good a year after purchased.

Can of Pepsi I have in the fridge says it expires Oct/09. And I might have bought the pack sometime late last year. Seems it might be good for a year according to the can, but really, I don't think I would throw them out in October. What's the worst that can happen? If it's flat, no big deal. I'd get as much as you can.

In my experience it depends on the seal. Sometimes they crack the seal, even on cans. You'll know if they do, and if they do then they're no good.

A lot depends on if it contains aspertame.

That stuff goes off in around 2 or 3 months.

When I was a kid my parents won a year's supply of Hires root bear on a tv game show. I think it lasted several years since my parents rationed it off to me and my sister while they didn't drink it themselves. Never had a problem with it tasting off.

Who do I keep reading the thread title as "poop". I even started editing it to change it to "pop".

I did the same thing. I was about to respond with "Well, a few days, but... why would you want to?"

Bottle is the key word there. Glass bottles of pop last way longer than cans.

However I have been hanging onto my cans of caffeine free Coke- they stopped making it about 2 years ago. It's starting to lose it's flavour and/or fizz now. I give it another 6-12 months before it won't be worth drinking anymore. And that's storing it in a cool basement.

I tried a can of beer about a year old once. Beer is not always your friend.

I had them all too, and they seemed to mysteriously empty themselves without ever opening. Somehow, they were just empty, yet seemingly seeled after about a year.
So based on that, I would avoid keeping pop for any extended periods of time.

Does this Sussex Ginger Ale compare at all to the Real Brew brand? Marketed in health sections, but absolutely amazing.
