I hear ya dude, but the worst commercials by a massive company here in Canada has to be McCain. For the past 15 years those commercials have been super low budget and just painful to watch. Like the guy playing music with those glasses full of juice with that chick playing the violin in Toronto.
|
Or how about re-hasing the "strong silent type" kid? I don't think I ever asked myself, "I wonder what that quiet kid from the McCain's commercials is up to?" His kid looks just as dumb.
Or the other painful McCain's commercial can be summed up to 2 words: Elvis Stoyko. [/b][/quote]
Or Roberto Alomar!
"Catch de tase!"

The best has got to be the Staples commercial where the Dad is shopping for school supplies with his two very un-enthusiastic children. In the background they have the Christmas music playing - "it's the most wonderful time of the year."
I roar with laughter whenever I see the Dad flicking the pencils into the shopping cart and then they pan to the kids with super big frowns on their faces. Awesome commercial.

Oh my these are all very funny commercials.
Every one seems to forget the funniest ones of all time, and they belonged to none other than the NHL.
The commercials where the goalies have been embarrased by a certain player, and are now out of a job and hold a grudge against that player. They had a whole series on them, the goalies with new day jobs still fully decked in their goalie gear.
Two stand out in my mind, both were Hab goalies, one was driving a taxi. swerving left and right while the passenger went flying around the back seat. Another he was driving a lawn mower, cutting through hedges and over leaf piles. "DIE MAY PO LEAFS!!!"
Another great that comes to mind was a tennis one, where a linesman is watching the rally closely, and he gets destracted by a beautiful redhead in the crowd. Suddenly a ball smacks beside his head, and everyone is quiet staring at him waiting for the call. Hesitantly he holds up his arm to the left, and says out, and the crowd erupts in cheers. And then they show John Macenroe, who is the player on his side, looking very happy and impressed and says something like "great call! I must say you're doing an excellent job today!"

I don't have a favourite per se, but I did see an interesting one last week.
During a Mets games on the WB11 they had a commercial for "Deep-Woods Off."
There was this middel aged guy sitting in a tent, with his shirt off. I kept thinking who the heck is this dude ... and then it dawned on me that it was ex Flame and current TV personality Bill Clement. At least I think it was him. Has anybody else seen this commercial? Is that Clement?
If it is, he sure has stayed in good shape. Unlike, say, Dana Murzyn. who I noticed is looking more & more like his rotund father (Henry Murzyn taught in the commerce faculty at U of C when I was there).

Yep. That's "Clement Clement hands of cement." I know he made one of those commercials over 10 years ago, but I don't know whether you are reffering to some new or not.

I know it's kinda stupid, but I like the Ikea commercials.
One was with this family, who bought a new floor lamp from IKEA, and they put their old lamp out on the porch. It's raining outside and the lamp's lampshade is pointed downward (like a person bowing their head in sadness) and you can see the family inside the house admiring their new lamp in the background. Then this guy with a really thick European accent says:
"You feel sorry for the little lamp? That's because you're crazy."
I laughed, because I actually fell sorry for it.

I'm not sure if it is my favorite ad of all time, but the BMW Mini ad "My Money's On The Little Guy" is the first one that came to mind. The song is great and so is the ad.

my two all time favs:
#1. John West Salmon where the fisherman takes on the bear in a fight for the fish. It was in the UK but all over the internet
#2. Beer Beer Beer Bubba Beer Beer Beer. I don't care how many times I saw that during the 2003 World Juniors, I couldn't get enough of it. I laughed every time. The next hockey roadtrip I went on, my friends and I just sang it CONSTANTLY on the bus ride up (it was a booster club trip so there were people of all ages) I'd just yell out "Imagine finding ________ (whatever was going on at the time)" We had people in hysterics. Man I loved that commerical

CITI financial commercials for Identity theft.
They show one person with another persons voice describing what they did with the money they stole from the original person.

The Cat herding commercial from the Superbowl a few years ago is my absolute all time fav. I have no idea what the company is, but it's a classic. The funniest part has to be the wrinkled, hard ass cowboy showing off his "wounds" from a previous herding, then showing a bunch of cats in trees, swimming across rivers, and running across the prairies. Hilarious!!
|
That was for EDS. A classic for sure! I love the line from one of the tough looking cowboys:
"I wouldn't do nothin' else"
My favourites are from a couple of years ago. I think the first one is for AIWA. The guy's driving a hearse rocking out to Queen's "Another one Bites the Dust"
The other is I think a VW ad, has the music "What a day for a Daydream" playing in the background. The Grim Reaper is frolicking through a field, cathing some rays......
Saw them both on adcritic.com Good stuff if that site is still running.

I larfed my arse off!

My top 4 in no particular order
John West Salmon
The PETA add with the mechanical cats having sex.
The "I am Canadian" add where the Canadian guy pulls the shirt over the American guy to give him a hockey style beating.
The beer ad (Budweiser I think) with the talking french table hockey players

One of my favourites on now, I still laugh everytime it comes on, is the one for Raisin Bran Crunch (I think????) At any rate it's for a crunchy granola cereal.
The guy is munching away on his cereal, in his office cubicle, when his boss walks in to talk to him. He says something along the lines of "Blah, blah blah, for whatever reason the company doesn't need you anymore and we're going to have to let you go".
The guy eating doesn't hear a damn word he's saying over the exaggerated crunching of his cereal, so naturally, he doesn't seem that upset over what his boss has just said, and continues munching away, nodding.
I just crack up at the boss's reaction. "You're taking this really well. You'll go far with that attitude...just not here...because you're fired."
Funny Stuff.
A less recent one, but one I laughed over a hundred times before it no longer aired, was a Meow Mix commercial (again...I think).
It was one of those commercials where they have the "Meow meow meow meow meow meow meow meow" voiceover for a cat running to it's dish, closely followed my "mommy" who then proceeds to feed the cat some cat food.
Well in this episode, kitty's technique is being watched closely by some guy sitting in his favourite recliner, watching the game, who suddenly realizes he needs another beer.
If it works for the cat, then hey, might work for him. So he goes,
"Beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, be...er...bee.r."
His wife/gf gives him a whithering look and he shuts up...priceless.

I love that one. It shows the practicality of learning how to hockey fight. Even in the real world it's way harder to fight back with your shirt pulled over your head to pin your arms down.

My favorite commercial ever is the Johnsonville Bratwurst commercial.
That schlub on the dock is barbecuing some bratwurst and this guy who just walked out of 1978 says something like "those look like Johnsonville Brots!" then gives a mischevious look and then yells across the lake "Charlie Murphy's cooking Johnsonville Brots"! and it echoes "Johnsonville Brots Johnsonville Brots..." and people drop what they are doing and come a-runnin'.
It's so bad that it's good. So bad that it's great!

Anyone ever see that one for Verizon? It shows a team all dejected that the season is over and they don't want to see each other leave for the summer. So the Verizon guy shows up and gives them phones. Then the players are walking around talking to each other while doing hockey things to innocent people. Checking, one hockey player dumps somebody in a garbage can...etc
Haha comedy at it’s finest.

I liked the NFL Superbowl commercial that had a lot of it's stars and coaches each singing a line from "Tomorrow", ending with them putting up the words "Because after today, every team is undefeated" on the screen. (or something like that). Particularly fitting now in the off season.....
