Just a heads up guys, Ken King will be on TEAM 1040 tomorrow around 11:45am Mountain time.
For the record, I personally love the move. I'm not gonna lie and say that I'm gonna get season tickets, but I'll make the hour drive maybe twice a month on weekends.

it will be nice to be able to see prospects at an affordable price. Only 45 minutes from Vancouver and the Suburbs.

i don't buy the travel argument. if a lower tier league like the ECHL can support a team in Alaska of all places, the AHL should be able to deal with a western team

QC Flames to relocate to Abbotsford - Confirmed
From the Flames Insider at the Herald:
Quote:
On Thursday, Flames president Ken King confirmed his intention of signing a new 10-year affiliation agreement with a group of investors in Abbotsford, B.C.
“We intend to refile for relocation to Abbotsford,” King said the news broke in Quad Cities. “We’ve got a lot of critical, key prospects in our system, and we need a great home for them to prepare for the NHL.
“We’ve had substantial discussions with Abbotsford We’re in a situation where we’re completely comfortable with the terms of an arrangement “

Changed the title from Flames to QC Flames, hope I was quick enough!

True, but won't some of that be made up to some extent by the fact that people will actually buy tickets and such?

Wow, I am shocked they pulled the plug in QC. It will be really interesting to see what kind of support a Flames farm team gets in Canuck country.

Why plant the team in the middle of Canuck Nation? The players will get dirty looks at Safeway.

Photo probably needs a bit of an update with a third Texas team in the mix (Austin's the new home of the Stars)
But yeah, that map really puts everything into prospective. I think Abbostsford is not going to be a very stable franchise for the next two-three years. I think it would take a shift of one or two more teams to the west coast to make it remotely viable.
That being said, I feel bad for all the QC fans out there. I've enjoy the discussion on here and the insight provided after every game. You guys put a lot of heart into everything you posted and it showed in the insight.
Well done guys. As a fan, I completely feel for you guys.

I used to live in the area (Agassiz), and still have friends in the valley. We were talking about this, and both the guys I talked to who are Canuck fans say they would love to have an AHL team in Abbotsford - even if it's a Flames farm team. Whether they put their money where their mouth is, is another thing I guess. But they at least support the idea and said they's go see games. It is Canuck country, but people in the Abbotsford/Chiliwack area do see their communities as separate from Vancouver and they have municipal pride of their own.
I am already eying a move back to the area, so I am pumped.
I do feel bad for the fans in QC though. It's not really fair to the people who tried to make it work and followed the team.

A part of me was really hoping that somehow the whole Flames/Nucks farm team switcheroo thingy would happen.
Tons of Flames supporters in Manitoba (but then again the Moose are drawing lots of fans as well).
Sigh.

You would have to suspect that the AHL would like to pair Abbotsford up. Victoria would be an ideal location to move up from the ECHL, assuming another team is willing to go west.
This does suck for the QC fans though. One of the biggest mistakes made in this endeavour, imo, was in changing the name. They should still have been the Mallards, just in a different league.

I've been a Flames fan since I was 4 years old, but I'm not gonna lie, if I'm driving out that way, I'm going to see the Bruins, not the AHL.

But isn't Manitoba one of those AHL teams that focuses more on winning the Calder Cup as opposed to a true developmental pipeline?

As someone who was a season ticket holder in Lethbridge and then moved to Omaha and had the Knights arrive and leave, I simply do not understand this statement.

Therefore I think it's better to stay away from the Moose until such a time at the paradigm shifts. Might be fun to do a road trip to Abbotsford to see the farm team. Sure it would be a long one, but fun would be had.
